There are days where the blank page is the biggest obstacle. It stares at you, daring you, needling you, intimidating you, and teasing, oh so teasing.
I spent the day chasing gates. One problem child that wasn’t so much, and two minor walk gate issues that weren’t an issue until KU decided to add hardware right in the ones path. That took me all of 20 minutes to change over. Just relocated hinges to a different post and moved latches. Still, the daggum things have been in place for 2 years, no complaints, Betcha I hear one now. (the gates open the wrong way now! or sumsuch,,,)
There was more than that of course. Worked on the Flatbed conversion today too. I’m really digging that overhead hoist set up. I was able to lift and lower the bed all by my lonesome and make adjustements and measurements, and even drill a hole or three. Did bring home the cross pieces for drilling as they are a bit thick, and I have a drillpress. And a mill. One of the pieces needed the holes slotted for adjustment End mills are wonderful tools for such. (and yes, my time will be adjusted accordingly on the board at the J.O.B. )
That Hoist. Me’s thinkin’ I’m gonna have to make similar. Preferably on bogies for moving around. But the danged thing has proved to me its far more useful than a folding engine hoist could be. (which is out on loan currently) And the bogies are gonna need to be pneumatic tires. Not enough concrete up here and I have little ambition of changing that. (will for the machine tools,,, and eventually a lift,, eventually, maybe, sigh,,, life is getting shorter.)
Project for the weekend, in addition to the war on weeds, which should be faster and less troublesome this week. Project: Move the Buffalo. I want to get her over to Unks old place where there is more level space, and move the portable carport there over her. Its not the polebarn setup I have in mind, but it fills the bill for the time being. Moving that extra block is going to be fun too. I’m gonna have to enlist help for this move: Burnout Up!
As for Burnout, I was wrong about his ‘meth use’. Yes, he was a user at one point, and the stress of his downfall and getting stabbed brought old reactions back in full. He is clean still. AND thinking much more clearly now that all the stresses of trying to hold together a failed relationship are over. I had once told him “easy choices, hard life. Hard choices, easy life.” He now can see that the hard choice of keeping her at a distance and fighting for his kids would have been the better path. He chose the ‘easy’ route of holding her close to make getting custody of his kids easier. And now, here he is, knife wound to his backside, kids taken by CPS, his car impounded pending investigation (?), and her in jail for a couple of years, and an eviction notice hanging over him. Easy choices suddenly are making a horrid life.
No, I won’t be renting Unks place to him. He’s proven unreliable in paying his bills on time. I don’t need that headache. And I am not that charitable on my best days.
He has a long rough road ahead of him. I feel for him, and will offer advice, but that has proven fruitless often enough as well. Is whut’tiz
