Half ton of gravel in her bed today (for the ramp to doors of shed)
and it RAINED, HARD. so probably a couple hundred extra pounds of wet in all that lime dust.
And she didn’t balk or bog. Came up the hill in second like always, with no boggy-ness or slippin’ wheels. Just grab-n-go,,, I had that granny gear ‘in case’ but didn’t need it. Probably gonna take quite a bit more than a half load of gravel to become a need (like an overloaded trailer or something.)
And I could only tell she had a load by her ride. She rides good empty, but she smoothed out even more with a load.
Most of the gravel made it to the ramp. Last load in barrow and I was making the move to get it to shed, left handle on the barrow snapped at the base and the whole thing tumbled into the driveway. Fine: no worries,,, spread it out and fill holes. Gives me a reason to load the barrow up and take to shop and put metal handles on the beasty. Its a good barrow, but wood gives up after years and years of use.
I do like this square aluminum bed. Made clean out a breeze. I don’t like leaving all that wet lime dust to muck things up (Like covering backup camera lense) so she got hosed out. Being squared at corners, I was able to get almost all the gravel out with a square spade, just dust and grit remained and that hosed easy.
I’m diggin’ having a REAL truck of my own. S-10’s are nice and fun, but no way would Buffalo have hauled 1/2 of gravel without balking (even though she has a half-ton rear end.)
And its Muhnday,,, spent most of the day at the shop doing gates: one biggun’ , 6 little’uns. then home to push millions of little rocks around to make a ramp.(and fill potholes in drive, by accident)
My mindset is comfortable today. Feeling a little put out by Mamakat who is being far clingier than usual, but thats just a hormonal phase: it too shall pass. She’ll be her usual aloof “Piss off” self in another week. But its wet and all the boys are home hiding from rain and that makes her wanna be close to dad for protection. (Elbee is the worst at pestering her. She yowls and Cozzie gets protective, and confused, because he doesn’t wanna hurt Elbee, his buddy. Interesting nest mates I have, eh?)
No payee-attention to world at large today. Usual suspects rocking boats from what I saw. Getting to the point I can only handle so much bullshit from the news feeds before I get disgusted and wanna shut everything off. Truly, I need some kayak time and it’s not looking at all good for such this year. Weekends are filling up before the week even begins (and no, not complaining, Need the income to drive the debts away.) Placed two orders for parts for the coming weekend already. but A good paddle session is in order for some point in my future. I haven’t begun work on Buffalo yet, I may just get her fired up for Jool-eye fourth weekend and get some boat time in (along with a weekend of camping with friends that I missed out on Mem-day weekend.)
Had a moment at the shop I wanna share witcha: I had finished welding on the big gate and slid the one half outside to rest with its mate (two peice to be assembled on site) and was standing there when a toad popped up from under a board I use to cover the gap where the doors slide. MrToad and I had a little (onesided) conversation, but I swear that Toad was paying FULL attention to every word I said. Looking me dead in the eyes, occasional head tilt like he was thinking about what I had said. It was a little surreal. Until said toad tried to eat a bombadier beetle skittering along nearby. A bit too spicy on that one, and he didn’t try twice. He then decided our conversation was at an end and needed to find something to wash his mouth out with.
anyblabberboozybops, its getting on toward sunset, and time to just chill out and watch the REAL world settle down for the evening. Settle me down in the process.
