Started off the weekend making a small batch of gun cotton. Flopped because my acid supply was off. Its flash point was just way to low for anything intended. I really need a hydrometer to check specific gravity. But,,, There wasnt a danged thing wrong with using the product for something else.
I usually have a small supply of petroleum jelly soaked cottonballs in one or two places. They make great firestarters in survival kits. In todays batch, I took two flopped batches of something, and turned them into one batch of not flopped. The second something was black powder pistol lube. A 50/50 mix of beeswax and lard that was just too danged hard at room temp to use properly. I melted it back down, melted in roughly the same amount of P-J and once all was clear, removed from the heat and added in all that slightly nitrated cotton until it was all soaked in.
Simple test between cottonball w/P-J and this new stuff. 2.5 gram each. Set timer and light. The new stuff burns much more aggressively (4 minutes) with almost no ash, but the original stuff burned longer (5 minutes) and has a small pile of ash remaining. They’ll both do the job.
And I made another kayak over the weekend. Lol.
Dude will NOT capsize. LOL. Just an example of Dio keeping his front feet bizzy so he doesn’t explode from internal pressures.
Still watching the horizons, still in awe of the fact that this country is recieving admonitions from RUSSIA for human rights violations. The irony of that can not be expressed in a short post. Still in awe of the fact that the Capitol is still in lockdown with armed soldiers and steel barricade. That fact alone should leave some near the fence scratching their heads in question (and we need to use it as a wake up call).
Its warming up and kayaking will be a thing again, Lord knows I need the water time to keep my head aligned. But this year is making waves to be quite odd, maybe as strange as last; most hopefully not more so.
