As the seasons turn

Awesome sun-shiny day today. My panels are ticking along at 38v and pushing 10A into the batteries and its only 9 am. (I run hot at the panels with a MPPT controller that also has PWM programmed in. Its does wonders for battery longevity)♡ The poor things took a hit with no sunlight for the last 2 weeks.

Today is kind of a work day. This little example of Alaska in Appalachia hit my wood pile kind of hard as well as my battery bank. The local tree service guys dumped a load of old Cherry down near my put in at the river and today, I go collect it up. If this cold spell lasts much longer, I will need it.

Here locally. We would normally have had our ‘first spring’ and a bit of river flooding; this is dragging out and getting spread around this year, and we may not see the flooding part. The river is up, but not anywhere near what it was this time last year. On Feb6,20, my welding table at work was 6′ underwater. The floor of the shop is 10′ above the river this year.

Feb 6, 2020. Precursor for a year-o-shitte

That area shown is on the land side of the RR right of way. You can see the right of way in the upper section. The road on the other side of it was underwater for three days and when the river receded, buried under 8″ of muck that was slicker than whalesperm on an iceberg.

I won’t miss that this season,,,,

Whelps, finished the feeding me and the fat doggums, time to go work.

11ish: woof!! Its called work.

Noon plus: time ta put it all away

Thats the stuff that keeps so many from even thinking about going offgrid. Its not near convenient like plug n play power supplied by the grid, but it sure as heck is more reliable. I’m the weak link in the chain.

♡ MPPT = multiple point power tracking . PWM= pulse width modulation. When the batteries hit a certain charge state, it starts hammering them with short bursts of high voltage: keeps the plates desulfated and helps mix the electrolyte.
