More and more, I am finding my mind attaching itself to “Proper Manufacture” of things. Lately, that has been more and more foot oriented.
When Jack-jack ate my boots last year, I went out and bought a replacement pair that didn’t last 6 months. (made in China, of course) By that time, I was on the road, and money was even tighter. Throw in mechanical issues and the like (of which the graciousness of donors made my life much easier to handle) and, well, I am still running with cheap-ass chinese made sumpin-r-nudders that resemble boots.
I am looking at finding replacements. Not cheap replacements either. More something that I know I can wear for years (like my last boots, wore ’em for near 15 years and only needed resoled once). Money well spent, unlike the money I have spent on the crap I am currently wearing on my back paws. (and this or similar is what I am looking at)
I guess you could say this is a plea for small donations. I hate to ask, but with current trends in my income, scrapin’ by is a nice addage. If you can donate $5 to the paypal account, it will all add up so that I can put something decent on my feet. And with all the ground pounding I do with the Voodoo, it will be a blessing for me.(edited to remove the offending company. Further donations are on hold for the time being. A huge thank you goes out to WonderDawg, China, RDP, Soffitrat, and a ghost for their generosity. If the alien does what I think he intends, a HUGE gratuitous Voodoo lick is headed his way.)
My wife purchased a pair of Carolina logging boots (she digs bikes, Harleys and Hondas mainly) and she’s been liking them. I think it was Sportsmans Guide where she got them – $40 more or less iirc.
My suggestion (and I have no idea where you are living) – Good Will / Salvation Army often have military boots for pennies on the dollar, bought a pair of desert Altamas for $11 this past winter, damn near brand new too.
Hope this helps – good boots are worth the cost, its how we get around.

there are afew milsurplus places around here, but they are wanting damn near new prices on used gear. PLUS, the newer grade boots just don’t hold up like the ones I was issued back in the 80’s. The new ones are stamped and glued soles and while it works, the longevity leaves a lot to be desired. I have been looking for a few months and the linked boots seem to me, to be the best bet in the long run. And it may be a long run coming our way.

And a public thank you is in order. Thank you for a generous contribution to new paw covers.
Not quite there yet, but gettin’ closer. I can almost smell new leather.
Sadly, the boots on foot now are all showing signs of separation, and leak like sponges. Not a good thing when the weather up this way is wet, cold and wet, then blister your ass cold AND wet, followed by concrete ground with upside down icicles growing out of the ground.

Oh, you have NO idea what that dog can do when boredom strikes. His name is very fitting as it seems like magic the crazy things he can get at. And I have even seen him try to climb a tree after a squirrel on occasion (managed to get about three feet off ground before his front legs couldn’t hold the wrap anymore.)

You would be a size 9UK. I’ll tell you strait up that you won’t be too happy will the Doc’s long term, I’ve worn them for more than 25 years and ever since Sketchers bought them the quality has tanked, I only average 2-3 years out of them now. Only a few styles are even made in England now, most are made in China. Also If you really want to order a pair try looking at britboot.co.uk I think they only sell the uk styles. Oh and stick with 8 or 10 eyelet they are much easier to break in. Just my .02

If you follow the link, the ones I linked are made in the UK, hence the price difference. I wore Doc’s in my HS years and if treated properly, (and this applies to any true leather boot) can be as comfortable as a broken in pair of sneakers. the Corcorans that I lost to a pup were issued to me in 89 and I wore them daily. It actually got to the point where they were more comfortable than my ‘go-fasters’ (tennis shoes for the un-informed)
Thanks for the input though.
