Wanna know sumpin?

Ask. Its just that simple. You don't have to, and probably wont like the answer, but to not ask is to continue a faulty plan, and faulty plans, fail. Here's what assembled this post today. RTWT You reach a point, where it just doesn't matter what the others think, you have to do what you … Continue reading Wanna know sumpin?

Since High School days, time after MCRD on both coasts, post USMC days under the Clintons, Bush, Oblammy, its been the SOS. That last acronym means Same Old Shit by the way. I'm tired of it. It ain't blown up yet and this has been going on for thirty plus years. I hear the same … Continue reading Apathy

New Dog, old tricks.

March 27, 2018March 28, 2018 by diogenesoftherifle, posted in Uncategorized

A different spin this post.  I haven't finished my shop yet,,so my tools are still residing in storage. Even so, my thoughts turn (pun intended) to them frequently.  Of my tools, my gases, welder and the Chinee 3-1 are accessible.  The problem with the chinee lathe/ mill is lack of change gears/QCgearbox and some serious … Continue reading New Dog, old tricks.

Old dog, new tricks?

March 24, 2018 by diogenesoftherifle, posted in Uncategorized

I'm old school in many ways, even as I try to stay up with technology.   Way backawhen, when I certainly didn't know better, or even really cared for that matter, I took a mechanical drawing course in school, mostly for the easy credit.   Ah, that was just before AutoCAD was introduced upon the world. I … Continue reading Old dog, new tricks?

Ruminations about techy stuff

March 13, 2018 by diogenesoftherifle, posted in Uncategorized

Off work today, snowing of all things, and said snow also cuts signal to nil, so no internet as well.  Well, that got me ta thinkin'bout things, reflecting ya might say, about current standards, past standards, conditions then and now, and how it all ties together.  This might get a little longwinded, so bear with … Continue reading Ruminations about techy stuff

 Latest hulabaloo thoughts

March 8, 2018March 8, 2018 by diogenesoftherifle, posted in Uncategorized

Whatever happened to rational thought?  I seem to have missed a memo or twenty about leaving my thinking on the pillow in the morning, or so it seems.  Granted, the majority of those screaming, hopping on one foot and pointing fingers in this latest iteration of the anti-gun blood dance miss one serious point. A … Continue reading  Latest hulabaloo thoughts

WINGS OF CHANGE

What happens when a wounded veteran, a computer genius, and a handful of fiercely independent misfits decide that the best way to change the world is to stop waiting for someone else to do it?

G has spent years flying from a wheelchair, learning to make the sky obey him even when his body won’t. T is a computer wizard with a mysterious past, an enormous extended family, and a talent for turning impossible ideas into working machines.

Together, they build things that shouldn’t exist.

Aircraft that push the limits of what remote flight can do. Technology born in garages and workshops instead of corporate boardrooms. And a community of people who have decided that family isn’t necessarily something you’re born into.

But building extraordinary machines attracts attention.

Soon G, T, and their growing family find themselves caught between government agencies, competing agendas, and people who would very much like to know exactly what they’re capable of. What began as tinkering and experimentation is becoming something far more consequential.

Because when you build something powerful enough to change the rules, eventually somebody comes looking for the keys.

A beginner’s guide to going off grid. how to evaluate if you even want to make the attempt. written by the curmudgeonly author of this blog and his dog
