As the apathy churns

Didn’t blow nuthin’ up yesterday, but didn’t do much of anything either.   Spent most of the day with a trio of rather clingy kittehs: kittehs begging the living thermostat to bring back summer.   As if such were in my ability, sigh.

Temps started in the basement and barely climbed to the first floor before retreating back to the basement overnight.      Not frost inducing levels, but when just a few days ago, was in the 80’s, this feels like winter on steroids.

The trees are gonna start shedding like mad now.  The transistion that started with the sycamore will spread like plague to the other species of arbor and the colors of fall will come and go with a quickness.

Then the greys of winter will be on us for 5 months before the first peeking of green by the sycamore start the process again.

I even built a fire in the stove yesterday.  First of the season; by no means the last.   A bit premature as by 2, I had the front door standing wide open to cool the house down.   The furries were quite content with it for a spell, spread like fur puddles on any available flat space in radiant reach.   Even Cozmos was cooking his little doggie head near the stove.   (little?  That dawgum has a boney BOX for a head, out of proportion to his body.)

I’ve much to do, little motivation to do it.   Watching the world, wondering ‘whats the point?’ with a growing nihilism I can’t seem to shake off.  This often happens with the onset of winter-tide and the incursion of stinkbugs that accompanies the shift.   Damned things get in everything, stinking up everything.   Find them in the clean clothes as they seek shelter from the winter themselves.   Makes for thought distraction on every turn.

Part of a conversation in emails.  (my words so I can quote readily)  “Its a strange world we are being led into, without our consent in many ways, but its one we have to learn to deal with.   I am sure my great great great granpappie felt much the same way about the Locomotives and the Automobiles.     To quote Rush “Change is never permanent, but CHANGE is”   ”

Fred and I were discussing the ‘flying car’ SpaceX/Tesla debuted recently.    It doesn’t actually ‘fly’, but has some serious rocket propulsion and thruster tech built in  (and SUCKS,,, LOL watch the video for explanation.)

Choice thoughts tween Fred and self boiled down to “People can barely drive now,,,”   and looking at the memes on youtube when searching for the above video to embed, that consideration took off and ran with it.

and a point to consider.   I didn’t see a driver in said vehicle.   either getting in, out, through windshield.   And SpaceX regularly lands rockets from Low earth Orbit without a human involved. (other than some tech sitting at a computer on the ground).  Teslas do drive themselves (with the right package installed, PRICEY from what I understand, and rightfully so.)

I don’t know that I like that aspect of our future.    I can’t say one way or the other at this point.

I do think we are surrendering far too many things that make us human beings.   Like the use of AI.  It’s a tool, and I see more and more places letting AI take over the mundane and routine.   (replacing the entry level positions which were needed as the first rung on the ladder)   Then I hear about AI being incorporated into Economic fields, with failsafes all using the same protocols, and could see things going teats up with a quickness, before any human has a chance to pull a plug on a bad idea.   Look at the video of the car flipping mid-air again, slow it down, look at all the little thruster jets controlling the ‘flight’.  No human has that sort of reaction time.   Take that reaction time and let an AI hallucinate (they do!) a problem and to make corrections on it before a human can wrest control back.

Maybe I’m more Luddite than Tech: Like some tech, but I like analog more.

Maybe thats where my apathy is coming from.    Not just the weather, but the lack of ‘down time’ in nature this year.   No balancing of the new with the old, just full time mechaniking techy fun with computers and soldering iron and fiddly bits of compressed magic smoke. (thanks Fred)

Its Sonday, back to the saltmines tomorrow, still cardless for a few days while things catch up to me (my arse feels nekid with an empty wallet,,) and I will fight the “don’wanna do nuthin’s”.
