Hat Tip to Fred for the reminder
Hat Tip to Cory Doctorow for the term
Do you feel it? The media telling you how great things are, but, just like Mark says, ain’t nuthin’ holding together much these days? The plastic smiles and properly coifed hair styles of politicians and enemedia heads, telling you ‘this is normal’ when the new car you bought turns itself off at redlights and the water heater you replaced last year is already in need of service or replaced because the company doesn’t make parts for it now.
Or the possibility you need to replace your gas stove for electric because the county you live in requires a permit to replace ANY gas serviced appliance, and no one carries an acceptable ‘approved’ replacement: approved list being written by some bureaucracy unheard of prior.
Or your car insurance increasing because you regularly exceed the speed limit by 3 mph, even though you have not had a speeding ticket in 20years. Your own vehicle ratted you out!
And then there is the communications side of things. Love it or hate it, but Cellular connectivity is ubiquitous in this day and age. And the umbilical that can be cut without warning.
Reduction to basic services, or below basic services, as local governments begin reducing funding to those services as the costs of everything continue to rise. Loss of services we pay for personally due to varied reasons, usually lack of maintnence for much the same reasons.
Dooming? No, I’m seeing the inevitables. The complications are exceeding the available energy flows, the costs of service are exceeding the margin flows, and the law of entropy still applies. Future predictions of energy needs are being bid on now, and the people footing the bill are feeling the pinch before the needs are met. And the needs aren’t even built yet. That’s called investment,
and the bubble grows larger.
We’ve been here before. Several times since the 1980’s, but this one is the largest ever seen. That Three Mile Island is being restarted says more to me about the state of the Energy world than any doomer predictions. And thats not the bad thing people think. Nuclear energy was, and might yet be, the ‘cheap energy’ that Green Energy failed to provide. Yes, nuclear waste is a problem: so was gasoline when Kerosene was the fuel of the age.
We’ve been here before.
We’ll survive this one too.
And things will get shittier before they get better.
Our problem isn’t commerce. Our problem is busy-bodies that think they know better and have the ability to get in the way: Government.

Some thoughts I started my day with. Inspired by this video from Maxinomics.
FYI, intermittent service outage here. AT&T has been upgrading fiber in the area and has fubared the whole. Normally have 5G here at the stead, last 24 has been one or two bars of 4G, maybe,,,, mostly no connection.
Hopefully they’ll finger their shit out soon.
Love y’all
Stay curious
