Another DioYak,,,,

September 22, 2019September 22, 2019 by diogenesoftherifle, posted in Uncategorized

Thinking rather hard about making another kayak. Something to keep my hands and mind busy as the days get shorter and the weather starts to turn. Had a decent piece of white oak that I intended to use for a new cockpit coaming, but it had a spur near midpoint that caused it to crack … Continue reading Another DioYak,,,,

Gettin’ better.

September 21, 2019September 21, 2019 by diogenesoftherifle, posted in Uncategorized

Took the Duh!k out for a long run today. Put in just below my house and ran downriver to the next larger town. Water was comfortable, clear and LOW! My butt scraped through every set of rapids I encountered. Every! Single! One! The runs that are usually a blast to ride were more a case … Continue reading Gettin’ better.

Bummed

September 14, 2019September 14, 2019 by diogenesoftherifle, posted in Uncategorized

Took the Duh!k out today onto the river to start working up to the race day. Shoulder is a tad stiff again and I feel it. Lots of damage in there from years of abuse and more than a couple times dislocated. But thats not the bummer. While out, I met a couple of 'yakers … Continue reading Bummed

It’s called a job, silly!

September 5, 2019September 5, 2019 by diogenesoftherifle, posted in Uncategorized

And J. O. B. it is. And one I am enjoying more than I can express. Will it pan out? Dunno and don't really care. It's a side of me I hadn't realized I enjoyed so much. The only other 'job' I enjoyed as much was mixing live sound. I used jokingly say, "they pay … Continue reading It’s called a job, silly!

Feeling beat up

August 27, 2019 by diogenesoftherifle, posted in Uncategorized

Apologies for the lack of posting. It's been a little crazy on my end here. Working on the storyline of the T&G book I started here on the blog (has it really been three years!) And its morphed a wee bit, but still has the main elements within. Spent the last three days buried in … Continue reading Feeling beat up

WINGS OF CHANGE

What happens when a wounded veteran, a computer genius, and a handful of fiercely independent misfits decide that the best way to change the world is to stop waiting for someone else to do it?

G has spent years flying from a wheelchair, learning to make the sky obey him even when his body won’t. T is a computer wizard with a mysterious past, an enormous extended family, and a talent for turning impossible ideas into working machines.

Together, they build things that shouldn’t exist.

Aircraft that push the limits of what remote flight can do. Technology born in garages and workshops instead of corporate boardrooms. And a community of people who have decided that family isn’t necessarily something you’re born into.

But building extraordinary machines attracts attention.

Soon G, T, and their growing family find themselves caught between government agencies, competing agendas, and people who would very much like to know exactly what they’re capable of. What began as tinkering and experimentation is becoming something far more consequential.

Because when you build something powerful enough to change the rules, eventually somebody comes looking for the keys.

A beginner’s guide to going off grid. how to evaluate if you even want to make the attempt. written by the curmudgeonly author of this blog and his dog
