Slo-start Satyrdaze

Lots on the agenda today, but no rush lil’brudda, no rush.

Spent a few minutes re-reading my recent AI conversation, and came back to the one thing that was a constant in my childhood.

FREEDOM.

Freedom is not will-he, nil-he do whatcha want, when ya want.   Freedom is the right to find your own personal way into hell or heaven and how to deal with the blow-back of those choices.

It does not mean I can mix up bathtub RDX and experiment with it in my backyard.   Well, Ok, it does mean that, but it also means that when I blow my house sky-high, and half destroy the neighbors place,  I have to deal with the consequences.    Assuming I wasn’t in the center of the blast,,,

It means living with the choices we make.

And the current world tries its damnedest to restrict our choices to safe and foam rubber lined corridors.

Maybe thats the why of what I see in some of the young’uns these  days.   Rebelliousness is norm at a certain age, but what I see borders on suicidal recklessness.   Is that sign from a childhood in bubble-wrap?   And very little thought applied to “well, I’m gonna get hurt, but  I might do a lot of damage to others: maybe a re-think is in order.”

Over-regulated

That which isn’t forbidden is mandatory.  And there is ton of forbidden for every pound of mandatory.

and the regulations seemingly steer us toward “widget” status.   Box houses built to exacting standards to protect us from ourselves (but so dependent on an infrastructure prone to failure, the housing becomes a death trap, not shelter, during said failures.)  Dunno’bout you, but I ain’t a damned widget that fits in any single niche.

Resillence: The power or ability to recover quickly from a setback, depression, illness, overwork or other adversity; buoyancy; elasticity  (third definition  by websters)

restrict a society to  extremes, its elasticity atrophies.   A society built  around  risk taking/paying the consequences will out-perform a shackled society every time.    And  it feels like the shackles on this society just keep ratcheting tighter and tighter.

One of the subjects brought up in counter-point by Claude was “insurance” and high-risk.  What happens  when the insurers don’t want to cover a risk, but the person does it anyway?   How do those damaged seek redress if the damager isn’t capable of restitution or no longer available for such (see my bathtub RDX example above)

My return  point was “I never said  I had all the answers”   and knowingly do not.   But a life without risk is a life not  worth living IMO.   We don’t succeed, or even proceed, from a position of comfort.   We don’t learn from success, we learn from failures.  Science  doesn’t learn  from the hypothesis that was correct the first time: It learns from that ‘well, that was unexpected.  Lets see if we can do it again.’

And sometimes that risk can have catastrophic consequences.

We lived under the Nuclear umbrella for  decades and never commited species suicide.   (that still remains to be seen, no?)  And  I think the  reason behind that, despite all the chest pounding and loud words, was that those with that  power KNEW the consequences were ‘too much’.   Dr Strangeglove illustrated that ‘too much’ pretty damned well, while having a good laugh along the way.   (and one of my favorite bands got their name from that movie.   Can ya name them?)

But what happens when a generation was raised protected by bubble wrap and helicopter  parents?

That generation is the one that is primed to be the caretakers of my generation as we age out.

and oh-boy, are we aging out!   (getting old ain’t  for pussies.)

A generation that can work technology like it were a natural appendage, but couldn’t feed themselves during a power outage.

I dunno.  This isn’t meant to be a pointed post with a defined answer at the end.  More just  me letting the mind flow and see what comes out the fingertips (without some AI feeling the need to counterpoint every damned detail. LOL  )

Alright, gotta get at it, the suns up, the temps are moving upwards (cold out, Brrrr)   and I has a pupper that is experiancing energy overload and wants to nip in excitement: dood needs to get out and chase a ball!!!
