A huge sigh of relief is heard about the homestead,,,,
4ish, oppressive heats, thunderboomers building, not breaking,,,
Then they do and the temps plummet and everyone heaves a huge sigh.
Zon delivered the charging cable today (two days early! 😀 ) and Mac gets to finish it’s upgrade,
Dio sighs in relief.
Upgrade complete, running through things, and the Cricut is back in service, Scrivener is back in service, Claude works just as well as prior, and the warning I was given of ‘It’ll get boggy” did NOT manifest. Just as fast now as it was last week. (at least to mine eyes and senses. It may be a touch slower in processing speed, but I don’t run processor intensive programs, like games or such.)
Another sigh of relief from the Diogenes,,,
What I’m not content with is “external Tb Harddrive” A Seagate (which should have warned me off, but,,,) with all of my backups, including my Scrivener files for the books I have published, and a couple in process: NOT communicating. Mac doesn’t ‘see it’. And I can’t feel any drive movement, though the lights do come on. The cable is sketchy where it plugs into the drive…. Me thinks I need to get a recovery kit and do some white glove work on this one. Far too much on that thing to ‘just lose’,,,
Remember that “Load!!!” thing? yeah,,, backups are part of it too. And I would really like something a little less ‘finicky’ for digital storage. I’m leary of SSD’s (even though my Mac runs on one.) dunno,,, call me oldskool. even tape drives failed in time, but laser images, properly protected, retain indefinitely. (just don’t put it in a microwave, unless you want to destroy every little detail into irretrievable slag.) Of course maintaining the reader is still a question for the future,,,, Dead tree builds to warehouse filling levels quick (look at the smithsonian,,,)
Have ya noticed that almost no computer made in the last couple of years has a cd slot now? Especially laptops. Everything has gone streaming format/cloud storage. And some don’t have enough USB ports to do much with. Even Cricut is trying to sell me their Bluetooth adapter for the machine that was made without bluetooth. (and am considering it as then I could use the phone for ‘prints’ as well.) Cables are so ‘yesterday’ in this fast moving world of digital unreality.
I really wanna get at those Scrivener files. ANd I am sure there is stuff on that HD that I have forgotten about. Pictures, music files, other writings put the wayside,,,
I don’t trust the Cloud for my personal stuff, you betcha! Works for somethings, but I’d much prefer to keep things ‘in reach’, just in case. Call it that mentality I harp on occasionally of “if you can’t stand over it and defend it with your life, YOU DON’T OWN IT.” Information is the same way (and we forfeit so much of it online. If you can’t see the product, YOU are the product.)
another sigh, but of a different nature,,,,
A little sniggle of something I caught sideways: something about ‘time is moving so much faster’ and how people are feeling more and more disconnected from ‘the world’. We’ve come so far since 2001, and yet, I can’t say we are better for it. In some ways, yes, in others, oh, hell no. I do enjoy having the world of information at my fingertips for research and such. I do like the fact that old institutions are being displaced allowing individual expression to bloom and grow. I would never have had a chance in hell at becoming a published author in the 90s. I’ have seen some damned FINE muscians that the labels would have passed right over Pre20XX. No, the money isn’t as good as it was, but the fact that a stay at home mom can make a GOOD living writing romance serials for Ebook sales, says more for the state of the information age than the gatekeepers of old and their filtering for ideology control. (think they didn’t try to control how we think? Look up Project Mockingbird.)
ya, I have a ‘cliff hanger’ that still needs resolved. Its more of a “dropped your ass off a cliff” ending than a cliff hanger IMO. End of book pacing can get hair raising on the writers end, and I do apologize. It was definitely a case of “Publish now or chicken out forever” I’ve lolligagged on it enough, and I have new tools to assist me. Just gotta get the files back. (I do have a version on drive I can access, but its missing about 100 pages of the end. I don’t wanna rewrite THAT much,,,)(It’s also pre-edit mode and there are three chapters that didn’t make it to the published version. Not that there is anything wrong with them, they were just a little misplaced in that storyline. They will regroup and recover in some other book.)
blabberblubbersweat and stew,,,, Its not bad out now, but was hot enough I chose inside work today. Even Cozz was like “outside? Fuggdat!” He’s no dummy,,,, The other furries were sprawled blobs of fluff, far bigger in diameter than actual size. Kitteh thermometers don’t lie.
ANygabbomuzzibumps, I’m filing today as ‘semi-productive with technical issues remaining’ and gonna drop back into ‘sit on porch, watch world’ mode.
Y’all take care, Stay curious, and I’ll try to post some actual substance tomorrow.
