Four da Grammarians

I’m not being contentious with this post, more frivolous and amusing. So, If your offended nature is senstitive. you may want to turn back now. You have been warned.

Lets toss out that I b4 E thing,,,,

I before E, except after C.
Except in weird, their, foreign, height, neighbor, protein, seize, either, neither, feisty, forfeit, and a handful of others.
English: “The rule is simple.”
Also English: “It’s weird.”

This has been, was always, likely always will be, a sticking point against me. When I’m typing out posts, I am not worried about Proper Grammer or Punctuation so much as “Get the damned voices outta me HEAD!”. Yes, I’ll go back and clean up things some after the fact, but I dislike doing so as there are times where it only reinvigorates the voices: things get added to, or new parallel thoughts arise, and the jib of the sails needs a complete re-set.

Then you get things like this,,,,

The mind is VERY flexible. The more intelligent one is the more flexible.

And sometimes,,,, The simplist of things bite you in the ass. Like this’un,,,,

No, not grammer, but LOGIC . Something the English language is NOT. There are rules to languages, only, no, not rules,,,, more like guidelines

or as one of my teachers alluded to: the language has a negotiated ceasefire in effect, and the Websterarians and the Jeffersonians stand on either side. (little historical reference. Webster was a New Englander and grammarian, Jefferson was Virginia High Functioning Redneck and the two did not like each other much.) Recall this too: In the Constitution, the word is spelled Republick Note the ‘K’. That was actually standard written form well into the 1800’s, and that was dropped, likely due to expedience in writing, but I believe it was due to the printing press growth. Someone had to handset TYPE in those days and dropping ONE letter could make a guys job much easier. I don’t know, but having hand set linotype myself, I can easily see wanting to shorten things up a touch: and then, the expediance from that, migrating to hand written across the board.

And language evolves. Look at Classic Latin. I was taught its a ‘dead language’ in school and that was the argument as to why its no longer Core Curriculim. Except now, as an adult, self taught over many decades, I see the lie. Latin didn’t ‘die’, it evolved. The Romans spoke a more modern version of the Classic, and the barbarians that immigrated in, took it home with them (most of the Legion were ‘aliens’ looking to get a handful of Rome for themselves. Understnd that and “Gladiator” the movie makes a little more sense.) SO,,, You have Spanish, which is much closer to classic Latin than any of the other Romance languages. Italian, being at the heart of the Roman Empire evolved more so than expected. And French,,,, Well, maybe the inclusion of rampant STD’s had something to do with that evolution,,, I dunno, but it took the “rules” and went left, then right and somewhere dropped the compass and map altogether.

And English? What a bastard tongue we have. Latin, Germanic, Slavic, some Hindi, a bit of all the romanctic tongues, and RULES,,,,

‘Murican language is a complete anarchist in relation to “Proper English”. Stick around here and in comments, and you’ll get “Murican right in your face with no apologies.

With all that said, When you’re reading my tripe, understand that I write from the hip. Typos happen, and when I ‘self edit’, my minds eye may skip right over whats obvious to you.

Love y’all
