Ain’t superman,

Just the dumb hooman that hates the saying “I can’t”.

The 250th birthday was my Heavy lifting day: moved my ol 3-1 Chinee lathe/mill to the shed up hill. Had Burnout with me. This thing weighs nearly as much as a fully built Chevy 350. Getting it into Buffalo was the easy part, Getting it out was a bit more problematic and we had to do it in two stages. AND, the reason I am saying Dumb Hooman: I could have busted out the engine hoist in the shed and used that to move lift the beast onto its stand. Nopes! Had to strong arm it, sho’nuff. BUT, She’s in place and the stand is capable of moving (like a trailer, Lift one end, and wheels contact floor. Still one massive peice to move around by ones-self.)(were the lathe more accurate, I would want a fixed stand, but this thing is only intended for quick and dirty, rough turnings, and it does those quite well.)(the title is in response to a thing Burnout said. Sorta pissed me off though was meant as a complement.)

Table saw moved as well, and that one was damned easy in comparison. Went through some other stuff; packed up all my casting sand into buckets and will move the bench tomorrow. Burnout was dropping his jaw when he realized just how much this old curmudgeon actually knows how to do AND has the stuff to do it with. I’ve said it a time here or two: I don’t list a 1/10th what I know on resumes. I also don’t brag about it in general company.

I’m a frellin’ sponge and want to know as much as possible about pretty much everything, since its all connnected. AND, the more I learn, the more I realize that no one, NO ONE can know it all. Not physilogically possible.

The Jack of All trades, master of none.

Is often more useful than the Master of One.

Thatsa ME! (and yes, the above is the FULL quote that no one really remembers anymore. Like the Blood is thicker than water quote that gets tossed around. The actual quote is “the blood spilled between brothers in arms is thicker than the waters of birth.)

As for that bragging thing,,, We get our share of them. I’ve documented a couple here or there in the past. I just let them have thier rope. When it comes down to it, I always say the same thing “Show me” So far, none have been able to.

I just show up, DO, and go home to my Kittehs and Dawgum and DO my thing at home as I can. Those that get close see the results. Those that wanna ‘one-up’, never get close. Not to say I don’t like challenges. Heck, I’ve had jobs in the past where it was a game to see who was better, faster, laid a cleaner bead, whatever. I loved those times because I was challenged to improve even more. Competition is GOOD for growth. Wallowing in your laurels is stagnation.

There is still quite a bit of stuff needs moved, but now I have incentive to figure out how the heck I am going to power all of this stuff. I’m thinking using the current wood walled shed as my genny shack and run electric from there to shed. Its only 10-20′ run from one to the other. Wanna put up a small roofed area between them for the ‘hot work’ like casting and welding. And depending on how that all works out, I may need to (future thoughts,) upgrade to a better lathe: one with threading ability. Being able to make things is likely going to be more important that just repairing them. I may not be able to grow a garden, but I can keep others in the tools they need to do so.

Today is domestics day, and while I’wait the wash, I’ll go through even more and likely load up even more. Like said, Lots more to move yet. Has an old Porter-Cable drill press that needs moved yet for one. Lots of little stuff still too.

and the call of old projects that had been put on hold for ‘reasons’ is growing louder with the proximity of the tools. Retire? Who? ME? I laugh,,,,
