Before y’all go gettin’ you shorts in a wad, NO, I am not shutting the shop down. This domain name is paid in full for another 2 full years and some months, I ain’t droppin’ that ball.
But look around..,
Spud mentioned it in comments last post. Francis mentioned it over at his place as well. I’ve seen ’em come and go, mostly go. Still here, still pluggin’ away.
The list of old reads, or at least a handful of ’em. TUAK, Joel of the Desert. Claire Wolfe. Bison Press(RIP). Smallest Minority. Blues blog, Soffitrat (RIP). a few others I wont’ mention as there was some bad blood between us over the whole Patcom snafu in 2012.
More than a few poseurs along the road as well (Coff Kerodin, coff coff).
And some dyed in the wool troopers: TL Davis, still hammering it out though he has moved to Substack these days. (More than few have done that move. I don’t like their backline set-up for getting paid subscriptions. Just a personal pet peeve.)
One theme of those that kept at it until,,, whatever came to pass. THEY LIVED THEIR WORDS. Joel in the desert, The Ultimate Answer to Kings lbog. No one, not ever, could ever say he was posing as prepper. He still posts, on occasion, but suffers the same problem most of us hit: Been there Said that. You start feeling like a broken record, fearful of plagerizing yourself (and it does happen) And new content gets harder and harder to come by and keep to the ‘theme’,,,
One can only point out the Poly-tickians theater only so much before it just sticks in your craw like a shrimp tail getting past the teeth.
And there is only so much that one can preach about ‘being ready’ before you start feeling like you are lecturing. I hate lectures Hatez’em I say!!!
And then there are the things that DON’T get discussed because one prefers to keep some things autonomous and off the radar of Feds and others black hat types. The longer we blog, the thinner that OPSEC gets, and it takes more and more vigilance to maintain.
Its a balancing act; one that slowly kills the original point of doing this thing at all.
I have zero regrets for making the move to open format blogging. I have grown as a person for it, done things that I would have never dreamed of doing, meeting people of amazing spirit, writing BOOKS!, exposing my creative words past “Teachers assignments” like I did back in the institutions. Making friends I would never have met in real life due to distance and social orders.
And I learned far more than I have taught. I learned that I am not that image I hold in my head most days (and that’s a good thing as I am my own worst critic.) I’ve learned that I can be the diplomat (though I still prefer the Marines method of diplomacy: Firepower.) the faciliator, the bridge, and even peacekeeper.
