Probably a good thing.
or like my paddle sesh earlier, the quiet before the storm breaks,,,
Dunno,,, goin with the flow here. (same as then, line it up and push through)
Home now, wet gear hanging on lines near furnace to dry out. Kittem’s happy as heck “DA’S HOME!!!” lots of kitteh nubbin’s, rubbin’s, buzzin’s,,, you’d think I’d been gone a week, not 6 hours,,,
Gear all worked perfectly,,, I even felt hot at one point even though I was drenched: fighting wind and waves is a workout. Even more of a workout than just distance. And I am feeling that workout in places not usual. Calves are tight, Gluts are tight. I was ‘standing’ on the footpegs while driving that paddle into the waves during that downburst. My whole lower body is feeling it. Grab water, push boat forward with core and hips, repeat on other side,,,, Take a good look at olympian kayakers and you see a fully formed body from head to toes because they use every single section of it driving thier boats. And today I am feeling THAT.
GOOD.
Thats the point ain’t it?
and I need the experiance. I did the right thing by turning into that storm (there was no outrunning it, even if that had crossed my mind.) and driving at it like a madman. MamaNature may have controlled the wind and waves, but I was in control of that boat and what she was doing. ‘Grabbing the Helm’ like that put me in the right frame of mind and anxieties went “POOF!” And Lyssa yelled out, “See! I REALLY am a seakayak!” Didn’t matter where the waves and swellls were coming from, she rode them like she owned them and I was just providing forward drive. Winds strong enough I could feel the outwater blade trying to flutter in the wind. (and why I like Greenland paddles,,, a Euro would have caught the wind and capsized me) And that taught me how to low draw sweep for forward motion, (Blade almost level at waist, less wind resistence on the outblade.) And only a few minutes later, we were through and clear and WET! but alive and moving.
ALIVE AND MOVING.
Keep on Livin’.
It’s days like today, where I think we have it all backwards, doin’ the 9-5, chasin’ the almighty dollar,, , existing but not really livin’.
Quiet out there ain’t necessarily a bad thang, unless it is.
On the udder hand, with the cray cray the way it’s happening out yonder (and gettin’ worse), dam glad ya got some wet time. We all need a bit o that relaxation. Ain’t so sure how much more a that we’ll get. Dam sure hope I’m mis-reading things.
Far as them “nubbin’s, rubbin’s, buzzin’s,”, that’s a good thing! The wee one doesn’t seem to much give a dam, long as he can crash in Dad’s lap – like now😉 Although I gotta add in the snorin’ and other odd sounds🙃.
Time fer an adult beverage.
Y’all take care,
Mike in FLA.
