Optimist

Just a little sumpin I’ve been noticing the last year. I’m seeing optimism counter to the strife we are all subjected to.

The negative narrative, the ‘Big Lie‘ that is constantly in our face, that is having real ramifications in the world, is being blunted by a growing optimism that would dumbfound my grandfather. He grew up during the great depression when everything was scarce, but the government wasnt trying to control every aspect of our existence.

These days, government encroachment hits us 20 ways to Sunday before we even leave our homes to work. How our food is supplied to the regulations attached to our appliances, all right there in our faces. Then you toss in the 24/7/365 feed of lies, obfuscation, denials, and drama sell to ‘get the vax’,,,

People are resilient animals. The constant barage of the negative is allowing forcing people find the positive. A quick example is something I noted in my kayaking circles. All of the shutdowns and what not have made some resources more scarce than usual, and one of those is raw neoprene. Getting new wetsuits or sprayskirts is becoming harder. Lots of oddball sizes available, but the average ones are hens teeth. Instead of wringing hands and moaning about how we are ‘doomed, doooommmeed I seh!!!’, people just ask around to see if maybe someone out grew theirs or lost too much weight or just said to heck with it and want to part ways with old gear. Or they will buy that oversized one and refit it to their specs. (I fit more in the latter group.)

And if I had to offer a theory as to why this round of Depression is different from that of the 1930s, I would say it is because of information. We have so much access to more information than ever before, communication systems that are cheap fast reliable and span the damned globe (you can email someone on the other side of the planet and get a response in minutes and not spend a penny doing so). It may not be the most accurate of information, but the quantity has a value, and even the bullshit stuff has a merit: its an alternative offering that helps expand thinking.

All the harpies government and media negativity isn’t because of reality: its because of fear.

They are losing the power of top down control and they fear for their ‘power’. And I’m certian more than a few of them are in fear of the truth coming out.

They are scared as hell and are slinging the narrative around hoping to beat the entire human species back into submission. But the genie is out of the bottle and the only way to get it back in is to smash the very things built that got us here. The infrastructure of power distribution, world wide communications and information access.

Optimism is growing, despite the battering they are delivering (and maybe its growing because of that battering.) People aren’t automatons, we find niches and use them, but we never actually settle into them, and to fit neatly into a niche is crucial for the lefts ideology of utopia.

They are scared!

And when the dust settles, we win.
