Forgive me for corporate speak from the nineties, but in this case it applies: their paradigm is broken and they can’t see it because they’ve done everything possible to insulate themselves from input coming from outside the paradigm.
RTWT. don’t TL;DR it, its worth your time
When I was early teens, still at the gawky awkward stages, I read a book, post apocalyptic type, that had Europe as the ground zero of a global war. Pocket nukes, bioweapons, autonomous tracked armor, etc. The key players? I dont recall, but the European peninsula was the theater they used to ‘solve issues off state’.
Not saying that is where we are headed, but with how things are going, who the hell knows. I do believe that in some cases “fiction” is inspired by ‘future memories’ (and a part of my religious theories, but I digress) and maybe the author of that Fiction had ‘seen the future ‘.
Dunno.
And it doesn’t matter at the individual level unless you reside in that area of contention.

On a different note, work related, has anyone noticed the level of pussification of the younger gen? Had a 25yo that started work recently. Today was his last day. No need to cover details of what or why, but when you get back to the shop and tell the owner (I wish I had been a fly in the wall for this) that you are going to the ER and filing for workmans comp, you can be purt much gare-un-damn-teed, that said owner is gonna tell ya to not come back. Especially if you are standing upright on “your broken ankle”

Momma needed to tell the boy to walk it off when he was a wee sprite, not coddle every little boo-boo like it was a dire emergency.
This is why I am the welder and not a normal crew leader. I’d have fired the sloth last week on the first job with the performance I saw today before he “broke his foot”. I have little patience for wimps, and less for sloths. The crews I have worked with know I drive hard, but drive myself harder, and only task individuals because its how the job needs to be done. I appreciate those that show self-initiative, even if its ‘off’, and really do not like working with those that have to be stoopervised over the most menial tasks. If your standing around with your thumb up your ass,,,

Allegedly ‘HR’ (haw!) hired THREE people. Mr. One was at least (dis)honest enough to not even show up to orientation and spare us the fiction of having the jerk on the schedule. Ms. Two (aka Little Miss Muffet… evidently she ONLY sits on her tuffet…) called in – a day AFTER scheduled. No-showed.*more* *than* *once* and called in again, eventually. Little Miss Muffet is finally no longer a fiction infesting the schedule. Mr. Three… no-showed. Claimed he got another job BUT would show up NEXT weekend. That was THREE weekends ago. Multiple people claimed Mr. Three (rhymes with mystery for a reason…) would show… three nights ago. Didn;t. Nor the next, Hopefully that fiction is now off future schedules. I know damn well I’m picking up at LEAST one more shift (or a good chunnk of one) due to Ms. Muffet and Myster(y) Three. And I have asked how is it that I work *without kicking into ‘monster mode’* at twice the speed of those half my age.
“And people wonder I drink.” “We don’t wonder why you drink.” “Right, you’re just amazed that i drink *so little*.”
