Says all I need to say about current events, I feel.
I have a short vid of a flubbed roll during practice last eve. Ended with a wet exit. Who knew that a PFD would foul a roll like that. (Experienced rollers cough)
This is why I was recording; to see what went wrong. Several things: first, I didn’t take that extra split second to get oriented. I just carried through with the motion. When I get further along with proper muscle memory, the actions will get smoother with less need to ‘pause’. Second, part of the first actually; the PFD wanting to be at the surface fooled my brain into thinking I was hip snapping correctly. Third, I tried to raise my head FIRST, Big No-no. My paddle angle wasn’t quite right either, seeing how as I lost the momentum, that paddle was pointed at the sky. All of this is happening in just a couple of seconds so being able to pick it apart in video helps (Yes B, I’m overthinking it. Shush!!!! 🤪) what isn’t in the vid is the three successful rolls I did prior (wasnt recording and didn’t have the PFD on) or the two, twenty minutes later. I stopped recording while I was back at pool edge to work on the hipsnap with a PFD on and stopped the camera, then, couldn’t reach the damned camera and trying to tell someone else how to start it ,,,, (future efforts, I’ll just leave the danged thing running. I have to edit for size and format anyways,,,)
I might have been able to pull a second attempt but you can see that Jacket tried to lay me on the back deck as I came back under. I made the snap choice of ‘get out get air’ and ran with it. But I am getting so much better about hanging on to that paddle no matter what happens. A year ago I’d have let that thing fly and make a panicked scramble for air. Now, I held onto it, and did not panic at all. And my comfort level below and above water is soaring.
I’ll get this polished up yet.

Earn it, learn it, its “worth more” when you do.
Nice video. Good effort, even better that you feel/ see/ know the errors right away. Patience Bluegill, and practice, you’ll be smooth very soon.
