Good weekend
It was a foul weather day Saturday, but around 3ish, a window of clear sky opened up; I didn’t hesitate. I already had the yak loaded on the truck, so headed straight to the lake. The river is still up and muddy so it was out.
Once on the water, I headed straight ‘upstream’ to where the creek feeds the lake.

Thats where I met Mr Egret there, wings flopped out, sunning himself. He chose caution when I stopped paddling to get the phone out.

The water was crystal clear and warm. At one point I saw something swimming towards me so I just coasted to see what it was. Three brown trout near the surface doing the same thing I was, enjoying the sun. They came close enough I could have netted them. Sorry, no pic for that one.
I didn’t bring the sail this round as I just wanted to get out, but you know how mama nature is. Today would have been good sailing as the wind kept kicking around 8mph. Water got choppy on the dam side of the lake where the hills open up. That little sail would have shown its true colors there;
If I’d had it with me.
Oh well, life goes on and I ain’t dead yet: I’ll get it ran through its paces yet.

3 hours of paddle time, solitude (I was the only one on the water), and the best kinds of distraction. Then the clouds started to thicken up and temperature dropped so I headed in, loaded up and headed home. I was about 5 minutes into drive time and the skies started pouring again.
Not much time, but well worth it.
Its been a good weekend, even with the visitor on Friday evening.

He ate up the last of the corn, but I ain’t mad about it. More worried that he may be making it a habit, and thats a habit that will get his ass dead. He wasn’t all that big, maybe 250#, a couple of years old, and not intimidated by a person on foot at all. Voodoo slept through the whole thing, but went on high alert after he caught the scent. Hair up, that digging strut while standing ground, a worried tone in his growling, and that obnoxious hounddawg braying in his barking when he thought he heard it. He stayed on alert well past midnight too. He’s a good dog, if a little slow on the uptake. LOL

Need to arrow that Bear. Done found food he’ll be back…
Yeah our yak is the same one as that guys yellow ocean Kayak , only blue, looks like he did a fair job with his rig..
Use caution out on the water alone buddy

Thought about that but using the predation clause around here is moot. They still take the bear/deer/whatever and suspend all hunting/fishing ‘privileges ‘ for three years AND fine you $500.00. And your lucky if they dont slap a home arrest system on you as happened to one guy I know.
Always careful on the water. I know in most cases, its just me, and only me thats gonna save my butt. One major reason I wont do whitewater.
