Refreshin’ mem-chips and Mikes 2 braincells: this was a dead rotor outta Buffalo.  Stopped her ded-n-road.

Found the culprit in tear down.  And the why of the sudden No Oilpressure thing that dev’ed since she got parked.

That dizzy shaft needed some serious effort to remove (taking off intake manifold to swap over: one has A.I.R., Buff does not.)

You can see where it was being driven ‘up’.  Bearings inside the shaft are gone.  Full 1/2″ slop up/down.  No O.P. because it wasn’t connected to the oilpump. (Me curious monkey side checked with a driver and drill.  Lots of oil pressure IF the pump gets driven.)  That slop was slamming that contact on the rotor, beating it and the button to death.

I’m gonna find mekaniks glitter in the oil pan: know it.  Not a big concern,  but it means other stuff downstream started self destruction as well.

349,127 miles 24 years.  I have to say, this enjin outlived her projected lifespan.

And is about the only thing (besides body parts) left to change out.

More laters.  LLLLL!!!

    Many thanks fer the shoutout!🙃

Dam if that shaft doesn’t have a pile of play – no wonder the oil pressure trouble! Yepper, you can bet on finding glitter downstream!

I’m just glad you caught it, and didn’t get stuck out in East Bumfuk.

    Ya done good, me Brudda!

    L’s!

    Y’all take care,
    Mike in FLA.

  2. I’ve seen shorted rotors enough times to be thorough checking the spark. And saw the distributor gear worn to nothing but I’ve never seen the bearings worn out like that. I betcha she’s got coked up oil passages.
