Laundry, then doing some running around doing exchanges of gear. Aunt T’s hubby needs to use the engine hoist for a spell, She has Unks Linetrimmer, ‘lets swap!’
So back at homestead, easily an acre (more?) of weeds that have been growing since last year. Some of the briar are bigger-round than my thumb.
T’ain’t done yet.
wore the F! out.
Getting to where I CAN see the ground enough to run the riding mower over things.
Scared the poop out of a young box turtle that has been getting big and fat in that little forest he thought was permenant. (yes, I moved the poor scared beasty to a safer location closer to the woods.)
Did some burning too. One old and big pile of elephant grass that had died, surrounded by blackberry briar. TORCH IT! That opened up about 20sqft I didn’t need to beat up myself or the linetrimmer over. That grass will come back with a vengenence next spring, but I don’t mind it with where it is. NOT in the garden but on the rockwall property line (mine and Unks, but all mine now)
One thing I am looking for is the Asparagus,,, Unk has had one growing for years over there, and I want to retain that. Loves me some ‘spears’ wrapped in bacon and smoked slow. nomnomnomnom!
Quite a bit more to go yet. Considering just trimming the edges, (except finding that asparagus first) and letting it fallow the rest of the year, then burning it off before the winter hits. Can’t hurt it, thats certain.
So much work that this old dood ain’t used to. Not that its killing me, but that I have never really been much of the Gardener. And not even sure I am now as this is just ‘yard work’ so far. Too many experiences with two black thumbs. Only one house plant in the this world I have not killed and its a catcus. LOL.
but I is beat tonight. Swingin’ that linetrimmer for hours on end, three tanks of 50:1 mix and one full spool of line (into my second one) Dio’s lower back is making whining noises.
And I gets to do it more tomorow on Socialists Day. I’m a good komrad!!! work in the traces till I drop, nyet?
sorry,,, bad humor, I’m tired.
More tomorrow. Love y’all.
LLLLL!!!

It’s called labor day cause we labor… I’d love to burn but we’re under a burn ban. In a couple of months it’ll lift and everything will be so wet it’ll smolder for a week burning up. Lots of water breaks and shade time. That’s the key to surviving this kind of work. Daddy said hard work never killed anybody but I’m pretty sure he was lying so I’d keep working.

We’ve been in the green all year, and it had been so wet, nothing wanted to burn if it had been outside more than a day. The last week has been rather dry and that Grass took off like a kerosene soaked torch. Another few weeks like this and this ‘garden’ will be tinder ready. Thats why I want to get the edges knocked down: to help contain any burn I do end up doing. We’ll be in wildfire season soon enough here. (and why I have a wildfire app on the phone.)
