Welcome to my brain. It’s messy. It’s interesting. And it’s all connected if you stick around long enough. "Believe Nothing: no matter who said it, even if I have said it, except it agree with your own reason and common sense. Siddhartha Guatamo, the Buddha.

so? If consciousness is,,,

yuppers,,, here comes the REAL rabbit hole.

What is Consciousness?

The punchline: No one knows. This goes way past modern Neuroscience and Quantum mechanics and into realms that are readily present in Philosophical debates that go back 4000+ years. I’m going to quote part of a ‘conversation’ with Claude here.

Here’s where it gets weird for the quantum consciousness framing. If Orch OR is right and consciousness is somehow fundamental — a feature of physical law rather than a product of biology — then the observer problem in meditation and the observer problem in quantum mechanics may be the same problem viewed from opposite directions. Physics approaches it from outside and hits a wall. Meditation approaches it from inside and hits a wall. That wall might be the same wall.

QM research has found that the observer effect can be retroactive. An electron fired, slit ‘chosen’, turn on detector and the electron retroactively behaves as a particle or wave. And if we can see that in experiments, what’s to say that mental control couldn’t have retroactive effects in other outcomes? I have read of some gurus stating that you can change your past with mental discipline and always wrote the statement off with “Yeah, Right!” skepticism. I don’t think I am alone with that skepticism among my readers. We’ve all felt the weight of a bad decision, carried for years.

And those Gurus would tell you “You still carry that weight because you never put it down”,,, Typical esoteric baffle blabber, no?

or is it? Is there something to that retroactive observer effect? points to ponder,, lets move on.

Let’s have a dip into the thoughts that have been skating the fringes of my mind the last few days. I know there are levels of consciousness: we dream, sometimes we recall said dreams, and the brain may take on a resting mode, but it never really stops , except under heavy sedation, or when catastrophic damage overloads the system. We know that, counter to what I was taught as a child, that the brain is NOT a fixed quantity of Neurons/Synapsis, but is constantly growing new, removing old, and damaged sections, and does so throughout life, short of disease or death. My point here is multifold. One, when I am Lucid Dreaming, I don’t, or try to not, interact with the dream. In essence, I turn on the DVR and try to make sense of the show after I’m fully conscious. Keep that in mind, it applies to the next part too. There are times where we don’t dream: what’s going on? Where did the conscious state go to? Why, in lucid dreaming, are we able to see into the subconscious, and just what the heck is that?!?! This goes into some territory akin to Freud with his Ego, Super ego, subconscious definitions. I personally think those definitions lack a certain humanity: far too clinical. Another point to consider: if cells are constantly being renewed or replaced, how do we hold onto our memories over a lifetime. Are our memories subject to ‘signal degradation’ by that constant replenishment? Are our memories even STORED in our cells? These are areas that Neuroscience is attempting to find answers to.

And we circle back to that potentially mutual wall shared by QM and Philosophy. Where does the observer begin and end? I strongly believe that to answer that will open up a completely different realm of science AND philosophy with the two being tightly intertwined like the double helix of DNA.

Love y’all. Its been a productive week, both here at the shop and at the J.O.B. I may not be hitting all the bells that this shop is known for,, and I hope I am not driving readers off, but sometimes, things just need to be written. (ask Sarah, she’ll tell you how the characters are quite alive and ornery)

I will tie it all together and put a bow on it in the post later this evening.
