Bloo-ey!
prolly the last I talk about Bloo for a long spell. She is still alive, still running, functional (mostly)
Wanna send a virtual play smack at Spud here,,, You called it dood!
What? Called ‘What’?
Guides and seals, valve, Chebytree-fiddy one-oh-one,,,
She was ‘burning’ oil prior, never saw it, shoulda surmised it by how I would need to add oil after a long-ish run. Figured that was an oil leak though, seeing how the cooler lines are not 100%,,, Thats my story and I’m stickin’ to it.
Well-zersss,,,, High Volume oil pump,,, Old guides and seals in a highly neglected engine (as was shown in that pic of the intake manifolds.) and now,,, under throttle, She BELCHES blue white smoke. Not so much at idle, some, but barely noticable; a few seconds after throttle up, COPIOUS. and stays that way while the valve galleys drain off.
Yes, I can get in there, put new seals in: I even have them since I bought a full headgasket set for the top end gaskets, even though I had no intention of doing the heads (was WAY Cheaper to buy the full set.) Heck, I could even pull the heads and have it all done at once; valves, guides, seals and have the heads resurfaced.
to what end? The rings and pistons are the only things that won’t have been touched at this point and I garan-damned-tee ya, they would shit out in a week if I did heads on this thing.
i’m tossed right now: do the seals, get a few more miles out of her for the time being, or SITS, running just enough to make sure all the stuff already done NOT ENGINE doesn’t go to pot in the meantime. She’s gonna burn oil, IS burning oil, but I know it now. I won’t be doing any serious driving with her until something or nudder is repaired/replaced.
and Another block is the next step,,, just how far off is in question.
Buffalo UP!!! sorry gurl,,,You are “ol’reliable” with reason,,,,
Live

LEARN (from my fuck ups!)
LOAD!!!
(‘ ,)
(and yes, there is no small part of me kicking my hindquarters for not just jumping the shark and getting a remanned/refurbed long block and being done with it. I likely would have saved a thou or so doing that. Live and Learn.)

Gotz to say: it’s only a f*ck up if ya cain’t fix it!! Instead, consider it a learnin ‘sperience😁
Afore ya go to the trouble & expense of doin the heads – have em seriously checked for cracks and other defects – I figure that ya already know this, just a reminder – it’s cheap insurance. Give Twuck a pat on the ass fer me – she’s a good gurl, just mistreated!😉 She’s in a much better place now.
L’s!

Dunno that I’m gonna do the heads at this point. Thinking just the seals (totally a bandaid repair) to get through to a new LONG block and be ‘done and done’.

A very valid plan. That’ll get ya to a point that the earl consumption is under control. Should hold ya till you can do the whole enchilada when ya can get to it. When ya do get it, try and verify the mileage. As ya said, a wreck is the best donor most a the time.

Was eyeballin’ around last night, Fakebook, but is what it is,,, Around $800/block complete is average. (Facepalm!) a few were in runners, but most are ‘shelf units’, already pulled but marked with milage and VIN from original.
And,,, A new unit from Gearheads with a 3 year no mile limit warranty is $2800. thinkin,,,,

To replace the guides, probably expensive these days ( like everything else ) , I always just ran a knurling tool and replaced the wipers. Of course you’d have to remove them to do it….
im with you , just slap some new seals on em and run it. Hopefully they will hold air long enuff to not drop a valve down the hole. If not…well ya got problems lol.
way it’s looking ,There may not be any fuel to run anything without an economy to transport. Again , not an issue cos we got big problems at that point eh .

I figure she’s a redneck truck, gonna redneck this’un. Rope in the cylinders to hold the valves, not air pressure. Did it once on a moto and it worked good. just a few more cylinders this time’round. LOL
