Welcome to my brain. It’s messy. It’s interesting. And it’s all connected if you stick around long enough. "Believe Nothing: no matter who said, even if I have said it, except it agree with your own reason and common sense. Siddhartha Guatamo, the Buddha.

goin home?????

maybe!!! Underneath it and airing up shoes,,,

locked calipers, potential dead clutch, 3″ exhaust missing where the cats used to be, all 4 tires dry-rotted, though I expected that, headlamps busted,,, no keys,, and right now, questioning if they even have title to it. Dood here says “absolutely yes”, but I haven’t laid eyes on it meself,,,,

Dammit!!!

bonus: engine does turn by ratchet, shows good compression,, its a 350: hard to beat up a 350,,,,

I’m holding tight right now,,, not committing an irreversible move.

Whutch’all tink? Stick to it (dependent upon title) or run screaming??? Input heavily requested in this instance. (note: no title, no buy, PERIOD. I’ve been down that road once before and it took me YEARS to get rid of the paperweight. Ended up donating it to a school as a project motorcycle. )

title is a huge issue for sure! That might be a parts truck. The utility body can be swapped over to a good chassis. If they don’t have a title, maybe offer $300 and settle for $400. The body is worth that and the chassis can donate parts to a titled truck. Maybe put the toolbox body on buffalo? You’re a welder. You can make it fit easily enough. The brakes might just be pads stuck on rusty rotors. I’ve had that happen a few times. I hate changing calipers. Too much experience with brakes in the salt belt. Do they use salt in the roads there during snow season? Calipers… Ughhh! Rusty lines, bleeding sludge that used to be brake fluid… [involuntary shudder]. Good luck, I’ll pray for you to have wisdom about this.

    • I was thinking much the same about the stuck caliper,, more’n likely pad rusted to the rotor, and yes, they do use the car-killin’ salt here, though nowhere near what they do two hours north of here.
Yeah, long term brakes sitting are no fun to correct. And the dead clutch, may just be hydraulics(likely) and thats a no fun either as the slave cylinder on this thing is around the input shaft: gotta pull the transmission to get to it, If I gotta go that route, I’m replacing EVERYTHING, pressureplate, friction plate, throwout bearing, refacing the flywheel, pilot bearing if there is one. Cheaper in the long run, and it would give me reason to replace the Rear main seal at the same time. 195K, you know its a leaker.

    • And no, I haven’t decided yet, that Title issue is the clincher right now. I have spent a bit of time looking up parts that I know are going to be needed and while not too bad cost wise, that shit adds up with a quickness.

Not much to add to what you and Fred have already noted. And yes – the title is the deciding factor!

The parts will definitely put a dent in the old wallet – and on yer time, but aren’t insurmountable. Small block Chebbies are, indeed, usually purty hard to kill – ya hafta kinda try to do so. If’n the clutch slave cylinder needs replacing, yer idea is the right way to go, fer sure, ‘specially with that many miles. With all that, it could still be a winner – depending on the title (I’ve been down that road – once’t – meself). Never again!

    Y’all take care,
