A collective silence,,,
Last night,,,
Last night was ‘wyrd’,,, I went out on the porch as the turn of the year approached and was, well, baffled works. SILENCE, A deep silence like I have only heard here once before. That time was right after a snowstorm and the wee hours of the morning. Nothing was moving then and the snow dampened any sound from the distance. That was what I heard last night, but it was warm, and no snow to dampen noise. Wyrd. Almost as if the world were holding its breath waiting to see what came next,,,
I was so baffled by it, and being a wee bit intoxicated, not trusting my already questionable ears, I put in my hearing aids, walked back out there, and cranked the gains up to threshold (before they start feeding back on themselves) and
NOTHING!!!!
No wind.
No traffic from the local highway,
NO gunshots to ‘ring in’ the new year (its hill country, people like to shoot for ANY reason, and well, New Years is good enough too.)
No neighbors drunk on ‘shine hollering’ ‘Appy Noo’ears’ at the top of their lungs.
No dogs barking,
nothing
SILENCE,
sweet golden almost deafening silence.
and eerie. I stood out there for several minutes, waiting for something to make a noise, and was disappointed: ne’er a sound to be heard, and I even double checked my hearing aids by snapping my fingers.
so I turned the gains back down, put them back in their charging box, poured a triple and called it a night. Whatever is coming is effecting many levels of this world and that was shown to me on the porch last night. that may even be why my ‘meltdown’ chose this time of year (among several reason I can stick a pin in) to manifest itself so strongly.
Wyrd!!! Just flat wyrd.

Aye, that is Seriously EERIE (And I don’t mean the canal or lake).

We had that a few nights ago, it was cold and the fog was thick, as not to see much across the street. In the morning there was 1″ of frost on the trees, then the next night it grew another 1″ as well so total of 2″ inches of hoar frost and dead silent. Warmed up yesterday and the sun came out and broke off the crystals, but boy was it ever beautiful.
