PSR: check your TP
tire pressure not toilet paper. (Public service recommendation)
last week, 12mpg in Bloo. Was looking her over and realized something was off. Check tire pressure (recall, all 4 are Brand new, less than 500miles on ’em) rears at 35psi. Grrrk!! I didnt check them, assuming the boys at the tire shop could read,,, says right on the tire, recommended pressure is 60psi. 35 doesn’t look ‘low’ unless you really look close. (Note: I replaced the tires in pairs while doing the initial work on Twuck. Front, then rears. Both rears were sitting dead at 35. So its NOT a leak.)
alright, fill em up, check em all (front 2 were dead on 60, so someone did it right)
filled up again today, 2 days and almost 200miles of driving since I corrected pressure. 18mpg!!! Thats HUGE in a V8! Sure, she rides a little stiffer, but she’s a TWUCK! I dont expect Cadillac rides in work trucks.
With Regular Fuel breaking the $4/gal here locally (I know, I know, some of y’uns are seeing closer to $5,,, this is Appalachistan, most everything is cheaper here for some reason, including payrates; its a give and take thing.) keeping the fuel usage to maximum efficiency is a priority. Been hearing the Bosses cussing about fuel bills recently. (I have opine, but keep my lip buttoned)
Truth: this shit is only gonna get worse, and we may never see it return to this

the political commentary can be rewritten as “remember that promise?, ya know, the ‘energy independence’ thing?“
eyah,,, not gonna go any further there,,,,
Happier than a pig in a slop heap with what Bloo is showing on efficiency. That 18mpg is better than what Buffalo gets,,, I guess the gearbox vs slushbox thing helps.
,,,, anybobanobberboozzits,,,, I’s Sonday, Domestics day, domestics out of the ways,,,Middle Sis is coming into town for the week. Supposed to help Da sort out his basement. Most of it will be coming up here into the storage building, but there is a bunch of stuff that Da and I are looking at and side-eyeing as “scrap heap”,,,
But Stuff like Table saw, drill press, benchtop sanders, shapers, My Machine tools, welder, SandCrab Bench (where I make the casting molds) etc etc,,, Yah,,, thats gotta have a place to go, ( and will soon.) Closing on his place is soon-ish, and I need to find that outbuilding soon as well. Then get it delivered (and for those asking ‘why not build one?’ yah,,, priced out both directions and purchasing actually comes out cheaper by a small margin,,,, And doesn’t account the time I would need to actually build the damned thing.)
And here I thought things were gonna slow up a bit in the crazy world of Dio’s Da,,,, ROFL Yah,, RIGHT!
And I still need to address my address issues,,, and make a paycheck in the betweens,,,
while gas prices and food prices creep into the stratosphere,,, And thank the small gods I foresaw tight times acoming and got away from grid utiiliites. No way would I be able to make it right now, making what I make, if I had monthly utilities to tie me up. My two monthly bills that aren’t debt related are Phone and Car Insurance,,, The rest is all debt related and those are bad enough righht now.(thanks Bloo and my bad choices in repair efforts.)
But By GOD ALMIGHTY/UNIVERSE/THE ALL/IS (your choice in higher power here) I has a pair of trucks, one of which is sporting THREE engines right now, a mess of tooling, and skills/means to make them productive, and I own my place outright and could easily revert my efforts back a hundred years to more agrian type living. I could even convert one of the Trucks to run Wood Gas if need be. And as for battery ‘power tools’, if things go all pear shaped, and batteries start to fail, I could convert them to ‘corded’ type tools and keep rolling with them. I have a couple hundred yards of lamp cord that would suffice for that. Just have to adapt a battery casing to do it. The other tools, I have means to make them functional as well. The original designs were all belt driven way back when,, can’t see how I couldn’t adapt same now.
I don’t see things goin’ all Civil war like, and I pray we don’t, but even there, preps in place. The only thing that’s hanging me up is this economy shit and I know I am far from alone on that. I don’t see total societal collapse happening either. Downturns, yes, rough times and violence? more than likely. But full out ‘Return of the Dark Ages”, not so much,,, but I sure as heck studied for such: its that preperation thing.
And then again, there may be some Divine Intervention thing that happens and we are all reduced to ‘banging the rocks together ‘ again,,, who knows,,,
Love y’all. HAppy Mudders Daze to the Mudders out there: t’ain’t a one of us would be here without MOM,,,,

Dayyuummm! 6 mpg is serious stuff! I’ve seen it make 2-3 mpg difference, but this’s purty amazing, it is. Not only that, but in a 1 ton? And, yer most correct in that a slushbox will eat up some mpg. Happy Dayz, indeed.
That 1st meme at the end with the youngun is perfect! Can’t begin to say how many times I’ve done exactly that – along with a buncha times it wuz serious cussin when it didn’t hit the ground.
2nd one is RIGHT ON! That’s the exact reason it was done!! Wish more understood that.
3rd one. Grandma wuz right on the $$!
L’s! Don’t be slackin’.
Y’all take care,
Mike in FLA.

hey, nice post! You and your readers know this but maybe we can educate others to ALSO make sure your spare tire stays inflated. Many people forget and then when they do an emergency roadside change, the tire just doesn’t have air when the jack is removed. Still screwed.
also Dio, I would love to read how you can do a fix to make battery operated tools run off AC.
you said “And as for battery ‘power tools’, I could convert them to ‘corded’…Just have to adapt a battery casing to do it.” Tell us how when you figure it out. THAT would be super useful to know.

Not AC, DC,, just run a cable from the beat up battery casing (you’ll need to keep the clips and other stuff in place, some of the Lipo’s have a sensor that will need fooled) but then run a cable to a pair of gator clips to hook to a regular car battery. even 20V tools run on those since the amperage is good enough. Sorry if I confused you.

I’m not confused, just ignorant of how it’s done. Still am because I don’t know how to do what you’re saying. Not your fault, my own.
