I have so many skill sets, my decision of ‘whats next’ is a tough’un.
And I haven’t fully decided to abandon the J.O.B. just yet. Reason, there will need to be some inflow of reserve notes while I establish a new flow. That new flow has not been set up yet (other than book sales, and, well; try living on $5/mo or so. Not gonna happen in this economy.) I have my kayak trailer and could set up shuttle services, but that is weather and seasonal dependent. White water peeps would love it, but there are already services around the places that have the draw, and those are VERY weather dependent: IE, not stable enough to count as a serious income. I have my welder, oxy/acetylene torch sets (plural) i have truck, tools, knowledge, and that ‘git-r-dun’ attitude. I have kayak building skills, but that is an eclectic group, and one that is usually more DIY types,,, I can make soap,,, kayak paddles (and there is a guy on Fakebuuk that will tell you to not quit the day job doing THAT,,,)
Far more than I can list, but not for lack of skills, the list above is just whats at the top of my head. Heck, I just finished making my dad a smoker/grill from an old propane tank and a grill frame he found in a dump. I’ve said it many a time, “have welder? Your only limit is your imagination”
But part of my problem is from Heinleiin: ‘Specialization is for insects’ was accurate and dead wrong at the same time. Being able to do many things is noble, but it doesn’t mean your succcess. Dedication and fortitude will. And I have only been ‘dedicated’ to one career and that career is not within my reach anymore thanks to blown ears. All the rest of my dedication and fortitude has been in acquisition of knowledge and skills. (Mission impossible of course, no one can ‘know it all’ and those that claim it are ignorami and annoying)
And my conundrum now is that I have been ‘successful ‘ in my cutrent position because of my ‘McGuyver’ ways. The money I make/save the company is many many times more than I have recieved. My value is a given, but not reciprocated. It hadn’t been a problem until attitudes shifted from ‘mutual respect’ to ‘wage master’ (read slaver).• Now, I know that when bossman has issues (with anything), his social skills fly out the window and he becomes a real €♡₩t: I’ve seen him throw a $1200 iPhone across a field because of simple communication breakdown. I get it; I dont have to put up with it on a personal level.
And while part of me wants to head out to new horizons, another part of me just wants to stay put and comfortable. Which part is ‘right’ remains to be seen.
And,,, I am IT!!! There is no significant other to help take up any slack that may happen, no (immediate) support when the heaviness of the desicion is weighing me down. And its a self inflicted wound and I am not bitching (yes you are Dio) but it is one I have to consider.
But starting tomorrow around 5 am, I have about 10 hours where I can get thinking done. (Because I will be driving all danged day, chances of a post are extremely slim.) Then I will be in a position to observe an alternative to my current position, and that may shift ALL of this into Moot.
I’ll be back on Monday if I don’t post late Sunday eve.
• yes, I know he is, has always been, the wage master, as he is the one that signs payroll. But to use the position in attempt to leverage your most valuable employee,,,, no, not goin’ there. Not when I see the crap the other guys pull and never have a word said to them.
