more than a little of both I’d say. I have a vested interest in getting this property full on legal eagle, all dotted ‘eyes’ and crossed ‘tees’, but there is some physical investment going on in the meanwhile.
The war on Weeds side of things. Funny day: had to go get the old Yard Tractor ‘Beasty’ to do vehicle recovery on ‘Ol Judy’ the mower. Went over a hump and high centered both times, and needed Beasty to pull out the mower. After round two, I decided that coming in with line trimmer first to knock shit down might be the better choice. I can’t see the bumps and holes for all the weed.
I know what is there, just not the details of high/low. There be Garden space.
and with the world at large getting friskier by the day, that ‘potential’ is alluring, worth investing in.
And if for whatever reasons, the paperwork collapses, I’m out time, but not a lot of money. I can kill that electric overhead with a quickness (and the mains are still off, though I would be on the hook for the deposit still.) and I have not transfered the H2O side yet.
And if it all falls through, fall back and punt, get a surveyor out here to locate to the Nth degree the agreed upon property lines, and battle it out in court.
I don’t see that last coming to be. But my brainium regularly seeks worst case scenario: optimistic pessimist I be! Or is that Pessimistic optimist?
Frugal Squirrel! yah, that sounds better: friendlier and fuzzier too.
Heat’s still with us today, but not near the torture it has been the last three days. Humid mostly, little breeze, and that makes for misery. But no reason to not push forward. Otherwise I sit, do nothing and thats a bigger waste of time. But we are at the hottest part of the day and I am sitting under a fan, but not doing nothing. I’m typing, for you, my readers, something, even if not something relevant to the world at large.
So let me stray a bit and toss an idea that has been on my three brain cells. That ‘barn Idea’. One of my biggest beefs with Unks trailer (besides the Flea infestation) is HEAT. Without the AC running 24/7, that place is a sweatbox. Were I to build a barn there, I’m thinking extending the roofing out over the trailer (tying into for structural support) as added barrier to solar infusion. Closable venting at the peak of the barn would allow heat out in summer, keep it in (somewhat) during winter.
Just a thought. No solid plans as yet: no deed work in hand to verify my vested interest. YET. soon
More tomorrow or on Socialists day.

Depending on how big it is you’re talking building a pole barn over it. Be careful how much weight you put in that sucker… My brother put a peaked roof on my mom’s old mobile home and the weight pushed down on the walls and over time the floor developed a noticeable bow in the middle.
Other than that, it’s a great idea. Use the mobile home for the long wall in the back and you’ve easily got a couple of pull in bays for parking vehicles and working on them. And easily a couple of bays for various equipment. Tire machine, parts washer, drill press etc. The mobile home can be easily hardened up for tool storage and year round small work.
Have you ever built a pole barn? I’m sure you can pull it off. Scrounging enough low cost material to do it nice enough last without breaking the piggy bank is probably the biggest issue.

Sadly, with its orientation, it would be a side wall, but that’s fine as well. Just means things get a little tighter and longer. No hadn’t built a pole barn, but that was my planned intent if that idea bear fruit. And with your information about the bowing floor, would put outer supports along side instead of tied into. I don’t want or need any extra problems with an old used up trailer.
It could still be two widths wide for the ‘vehicle’ side of things, and doubled in length for work areas/tooling.
and IF this happens, it will happen much like my house did, week to week, as material accumulated. just keep the idea within reason, and build it up.

I would build the pole barn over/around it. Down the road you might want to pull the trailer out and replace with a purpose built structure. Easier to just run three rows of columns, set headers and put your trusses up.
What’s the size of the mobile home? How’s the structure and interior? The plumbing and electrical? How many years do you think it’s for left?

I believe its an ’85 14’x54′ Have 20′ from north wall to hillside I can’t cut into that is level and compacted driveway already. Same length. There is a block ‘foundation’ vs metal skirting, but its not supportive, just insulating. Electric is fine, plumbing leaves desire. exterior walls are the real eyesore issue, and the Heatpump will need complete replacement. With some TLC and financial injection, I could probably get another 10 years out of it, but as a rental, it would likely go down fast. Not that I ‘want’ to rent it.

30×54 pole barn and you’ll have 2 bays wide by 2 1/2 wide. And it’ll be a mower width from the hill. Or one really long bay for trailer work and a short bay and lots of sq ft for machinery. Old oilfield pipe will be good framing. Or telephone poles. The mobile home will be nice for various rooms dedicated for certain tools and procedures. And if it’s an office and shop that’s easily rented out in the future should you want to. If you’ve got any straight trees of any girth that’ll work for framing too. Mill them with a chainsaw and the slash and slabs is firewood.
That’s all I got, I gotta labor tomorrow so I’m going to bed.
