Most all of my thoughts revolve around these discoveries. (not new, but new to me, sorta,,)
See, these ‘cities’ or whatever you want to call them, despite being some of the oldest ruins found so far, have a thing in common that DOESN’T Fit,,,
And thats where my thinks keep running into the Dogmas,,, Whats different about them? They had infrastructure for one. Common brick manufacture that was uniform throughout the region. Flowing water below street sewage with limestone flags that could be removed for maintenance. Squared street layouts which made for better infrastructure layout. Obviously they had some form of currency and trade (there are records from Sumerian texts mentioning a people from this region for several centuries, before they failed and disappeared.)
What makes it so interesting to me is there is also one commonality that GLARES back at you. No Palaces or Temples. No Signs of Governance. Its mentioned repeatedly, in passing, but no elaboration.
Me, being the Anarchist, this tickles me greatly, but it also causes me some issues in Dogma. Infrastructure of that nature requires some Social Cohesion, and USUALLY, Historically, that cohesion was GOVERNMENT or RELIGIOUS in nature. Thats the Dogma I want to break and somewhere in this area is the answer to that riddle. What did these people have that we lost? How did they run a quite large society, spread over an area larger than the Egypt and Mesopatamia area combined, and NOT have kings or preists driving the herd? And no signs of mass weaponry, so they had no standing armies: purely trade oriented peoples.
How did this herd of cats align the individual and group so succinctly, and keep the evils of government and theology at bay?
or did they? Were their governors just that something we have never heard of, let alone experianced: honest, pragmatic and frugal?

Note, I am ignoring the Genetic marker points of that vid. I just don’t know enough and what I thought I knew is saying “hogwash”. Admittedly, my knowledge is 30 years past and behind times. Things could be, and probably are much better now.
Next question: conflict? All the indicators of what the archeologists are finding suggest a gradual decline into obscurity, not invasion/assimilation. More like ‘things started failing, no one knew how to fix it, and people outmigrated to better climes and places.” Occams razor says this is the most likely path as well, since there aren’t any indicators of massacres or fields of weapons and bones. Just building foundations and graveyards, like people leave behind with ghost towns. The fountains of wealth dried up and the world moved on. Techtonic shifts and weather pattern changes in an agrarian society would do that.
BUT, I come back to “How did they live so with no indication of governance or theology?” Dangit! That alone is worth investigating this deeper, and yet it seems everyone skirts that point’ completely, brief mentions but no elaboration nor speculation. Mention it once, then talk about how their pottery designs pop up in more recent digs (yeah, the people moved on, retaining some of the past and passing it along. Why didnt’ they pass along the SYSTEM? )(they couldn’t. simple answer. If they had retained the knowledge of the system, they would have maintained it. ergo, they couldn’t pass it on. sigh,,,)

Let the media hacks blow it all out of proportion, let us pick up the facts as they precipitate out.
