Outages

Under a cellular outage of a sort here. Not that the whole thing is down, just reduced to 4G levels (barely one bar on my phone)

What I find most interesting, and paranoia level inducing in a way, is that the tracking aspects of the phone work flawlessly when nothing else wants to do jack shit. Maps works well, but I may or may not be able to send a text to friends.

Searching for anything? Not gonna happen. Writing this post? Easy peasy. Posting it? HA! not till I get a net connection or we get 5G back soon.

And I’m not even concerned about it. I could toss some serious conspiracy shit out there; like we have a Data Center planned for about 2 miles from my house and Friday evening there was a town hall meeting about it and the PEOPLE stood and said “NOPE!”. Now there are outages all over this area. Could be said this is ‘payback’? Could, but I personally think it something much simpler and out of our control: Weather. Flooding all over the place here in KY because its been wetwetwetwet for two straight days. The Platue gets it more than we do here in the hills, but we get it still. Most of the western part of the state is showing axle levels in streets. Here in the hills it drains off faster but its still wet as fuck out there.

And I think that wetwetwetwet is causing some of my issues with Buffalo. Fuel there, checked for spark, THERE, I can hear compression (weak, but she’s old) But everything under that hood is damp to the touch. Could be some moisture in the cap and rotor causing short to ground making for weak spark. And she has sat for 2 weeks since I last fired her up.

She’s just pissed off.

And these outages are making me rethink some things. I’m doing things the same way I did 14 years ago when on the road with intermittent net service. Still functional in this internet world, but moving a little slower, more contained by what I have usable ‘offline’. Good thing I grew up in a world that wasn’t so damned connected, or I’d likely be losing my damned mind in ‘isolation’. Good thing I actually enjoy my own company too.

Some stuff running around the nets, nothing Doomer really, but some people seeing the dots and connections (sorry, can’t link right now, I can’t even pull them back up right now.) that this country is paralleling the Roman Empire in its twilight years. Hollowed out shell of Governance, empty coffers, kiting checks.

What? You think we aren’t writing checks to the world on defunct bank accounts? Its only a matter of time before the rest of the world catches on and starts saying “cash only”. I can easily see the cartel of FedRes, Congress, and State making in-roads to some sort of currency swap so they can default in grace in style. Be it digital currency (that the people won’t accept willingly, despite our current E-banking proclivities) or just moving decimal places and issue new toilet paper.

Its painful to watch somedays. Knowing that when things really start to accelerate, so many are going to freak out and start asking ‘What happened?’, and all you can do is shake your head and keep the course of ‘prepper’ ‘homesteader’ or ‘Permie’ (for those not in the know, Permie=permaculture=self-sustaining crops. Not active in this yet, but definitely being the mental sponge of ‘what works, what doesn’t’.)

Troubles ahead, troubles behind, and you know that notion, just crossed my mind,,,,

Talkin’ shop now. Looking at the new shed, mentally measuring things not in place yet, I can see this working well. A we bit crowded but not so much that its unusable. One tool in particular is the Table saw. Its already on a wheeled stand (retractable even, cool!) since Da would always take it out of the basement to use it. Same thing will apply here. That thing would cover EVERYTHING in sawdust in quick order without a dust collector (and still some even then), so outside it goes when in use.

If I still had the Southbend, things would be down right PACKED, but my little 3-1 Chinese lathe/mill will work well in this space. And most of my machining needs are what I call Q&D, quick and dirty, which the Chinee accomplishes just fine. (I do still regret letting that Bend go,,, 😦 )

HEY!!! 5G just came back onliine! WHoooHoo!!! Still has stuff to do that Don’t need net but good to know we’re back.

More laters,,, maybe even more mental wandering about reducing tech support needs,,, (like tossing the phone in the river and walking away like a Luddite! LOL)
