and not with a Hooman. But it was quite productive.
No talkin’ about the world really, though the conversation began asking Chat if it was able to assess world events. Then I hit the silly ‘puter sideways with this question, “why are so many people now asking if we took a wrong turn into a parallel universe?’
And that somehow turned into a discussion about some of my past writing. Like Wings (in sidebar) and Shifters (short story, find on page above)
This little conversation may have breathed new life into my exterior writings. (exterior of this blog) We discussed my hang ups with Wings (current events trap I wrote in, Cliff hanger ending) and different strategies for correction without needing full re-write, only judicious and surgical edits.
And then this morning, It hit me why I have been holding back so much. Its not the current events trap I wrote in, nor that cliff hanger (which is actually spurring me to do a sequel) but, well, Maybe the current events trap still appliies, but obliquely, not the actual trap I wrote in. More that Ukraine-Russia war thing and how Drone warfare has taken off over there. The Tech they developed in counter warfare, the use of 50 Km fiberoptic transmission lines to counter the ECM’s Russia employed. The ECM thing I figured into the original story, but the solution was pure genius I hadn’t seen.
But I wrote wings as a sideways warning, not just a fun peice of fiction.
And 4 years later,,,My writng is ‘dated’
I won’t lay claim that my story was an inspiration to someone (and can’t say it wasn’t, but.) Actually, the proliferation of FPV piloting in Recreational RC hobbies dictated that some smartboi was going to do something crazy as I described, in some form or fashion. Maybe not as in depth as I described, (and wasn’t), but just as deadly and just as much a game changer as I expected.
Ah, but then Iran has their fixed wing drones, aka flying bombs. And those are ‘almost’ what I described in wings.
Its a small step to remote piloting a close support platform. Iran likely won’t be that player, but some other small country might.

the world has shifted,, 26 years ago, we had Y2K and the DotCom bubble. One year later, 9-11 and the Patriot Act, and we turned a corner in Space-Time. I firmly believe that now. All of this started LONG before those events, but those events were like the blood sacrifice of some Sorcerors spell to create chaos.
And we have never regained our footing from those points. The hits just keep on coming and most people are worn out from the constant deluge of “shock,horror,carnage, economic collapse, edge of your seat propaganda’ that never stops, EVER.
Of course we feel like we are in a parallel universe. And the recent torrent of videos on Utoobie are people creating a myth from whole cloth, to reconcile the displacements in their spirits.
We’ve been here before.
Every Society in history has its myths. imaginations run wild to create some explanation for the dislocations.
