sigh,,,, feelings of relief
Wrapped up day, sent bossman a text with my current hours for the week, parked truck and tallied hours for the rest of the crew to hand off to him tomorrow. (I get paid early due to banking reasons. THEY get paid on friday to make sure the deadbeats show up on friday.)(and in a round’bout way, that they show up on monday too, usually dead broke and asking for an advance,,,,,)
Bossman came out and handed me my check and seemed unperturbed by the amount,,, I guess Son of Bossman wasn’t kidding when he said ‘dad suggested,,,’ Wow,,,
Full work week in, no OT, but who cares, best week I have had in MONTHS,,, And with the raise, it really showed it. Relief feelings washed over me, especially while looking at needing to spend nearly a grand on Buffalo here very soon-like.
Been tossing the ‘posi vs open diff’ thing around,,,, Yeah, it would be nice, especially in winter on this hill, to have a posi-trac rearend in the old beast. Fact is, the unit is over twice the amount for the repair parts of what I already have/had. IE: I could repair BOTH diffs with new parts to factory spec for LESS than I would spend on the Posi kit. (((Yes, I am tossing my thoughts out in the spheres where I can see them as well as your seeing them.))) Second fact of that is: the only issue I had climbing this hill was wore out shoes on the old girl. Once I put better treads on her, she did just fine, and the 4×4 works, and WILL work better once I have the matching ratio Gears back in her. (3.73 gears VERIFIED, not guessed at.)(the swapped diff is 3.55,,, makes for the front to feel grabby in fourwheel, and probably would do some damage if I had used it where the tires couldn’t slip and slide around.)
AH, but that brings about a dillemma,,,, Seems my CU is suffering from Diversity,,, I haven’t been ‘home’ in quite a while, so had no clue what has been going on there. No, don’t get me wrong, but some types should NOT be hired on just because of color/ethnic/gender reasons. While I lived up there, yeah, the entire office was staffed by wymenz,,, No issues, they worked thier tails off for the members of the Credit Union. Well, after the last week, applying for the Credit Extension, then having to ask for updates, to nearly immediately get response, to be told ‘finalizing will take place tomorrow with (some strange fem name) by 11am.’
I carried my phone with me ALL DAMNED DAY, I don’t normally do that when out in the feild. I keep it in the truck and check my texts regularly (the bosses know that’s the best way to contact me and direct/re-direct as needed)
Nothing.
So, tonight I jumped on the website and checked out the personell files and lo-and-behold,,,, Damn Jeana, the staff looks like the dregs of the DMV,,,,
I can see this getting dragged around a bit before I have to contact someone higher up to get the whip cracking in the air,,,,
sorry to say, but this is what happens when businesses are forced or shamed into practicing anything other than COMPETENCY HIRING. Period,,, Sorry, too many of the “Can’ts” or “Won’ts” just looking for a paycheck and know that ONCE HIRED ON, they can stick like ticks and milk the paychecks. No one can fire them without risking serious legal issues, and in some cases, such as where Brudda B works, they can’t fire anyone short of said person committing Grand Theft or some other Capitol Offense.
Dunno know about these days, since I operate in the boonies,,, But back when I was in ‘city’, at least the technical service industry was able to keep competency alive. Yeah, they were forced to hire the ‘obligatory’ type to keep the heat off them, but that person was usually relegated to Go-pher or some such and not actually making problems worse,,, There was a reason the last two wrenching jobs I worked, demanded some ASE certs,,, At least you could pass a test was their outlook. From what I hear now, that is going the wayside because the lawyer fees for discrimination are getting out there. Just bite the bullet, hope and pray that they can do something, and not get people killed in the process.
My question on that last note: How is demanding certification “Discrimination”? Anyone can go take those tests: pay a small fee, take the test, and if you pass, (its strictly multiple choice, no written, no essay, and usually under 50 questions per cert.) BAM, you are certified with a certificate to hang on the wall, and a patch for your uniforms. No one asks color, religion, gender, orientation, nothing,,, just take the damned test and pass,, simple. I don’t get it. The lawyers could read a good Heinlein novel and come up with a Stephen King horror novel and convince you of that fact. I don’t like that shit. (and why I started studying Rhetoric because that is their weapon,,,)
Seriously, if demanding certification is discrimination, than those being discriminated against have other issues, like VICTIM MENTALITY and they would rather skate on that, than actually accomplish something in this world.
just like TICKS,,,

one more day of the J.O.B. one more day before I can go to my church of the two-bladed paddle and get some serious ground and center in. Looks like another wet weekend upcoming; fine by me, water hiss is just about the perfect frequency to calm my mind and soul.
more laters,
keep on livin’

Considering the diff… I’m a firm believer in “better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it”. Though, I guess that applies to the Benjamin’s too. If it were me, I’d look at how long you “plan” to keep her. If long term, throw the extra bucks at it and don’t look back. If you might be looking to “trade up” in the near future, don’t worry about it, save the extra $$ for new shoes for the old girl. I myself just bought a “new” truck (1998) two days ago and I plan on it being the LAST truck I ever buy. Been pricing out parts – looking for top-grade, “bulletproof” stuff and it’s mighty pricey but I’m in it for the long haul. I’d feel better dumping $20k into this rig over a couple o’ years than spending $60k for a new one, that probably wouldn’t last as long as my ’98 already has! Like my old man says, “It’s only money. You can always make more.”
As for the diversity hires…don’t get me started!! In CA it is near impossible to get rid of dead weight, and if there is a Union involved, fuggitaboutit! There are just too many stupid people about, it boggles the mind!

I’m a firm believer in the same, ‘have not need, need not have,’,,, and the temptation is strong in this one,,, As you say, easier and cheaper to dump another 10-20K in old girl and still come out ahead of a new truck purchase (that has a kill switch built in, not for your use, mind you.) SOossss’s I haven’t made up my mind,,, LOL Waiting on that ‘loan’ to get finalized before I can do anything at this point (I COULD order some fo the parts right now and not pay any interest, but I wouldn’t have them all in hand AND I would end up paying more in shipping multiple shipments
Yeah,,, Diversity hires,,, nuff said,,, at least where I am, they are lean pickings, but to compensate, we get the meth-heads and pill-head deadbeats.
