SURFS UP!

Not really,,,,,

But walk into my house right now and you would swear there is a surfer livin’ here. The smell of neoprene drying and all the wetsuit stuff hanging on drying lines,,,,,

And tomorrow, I does it again.

I really don’t wanna wait for that drysuit,,, but, ya gotta,,,, I keep checking the website hoping they update it properly for shipping and estimated arrival, but China, right? Buddy that went the same route said his was estimated at a month, showed up in two weeks (that would be spectacular in my book) but so far, still shows waiting in ‘dispatch’,,, whatever that means,,,, payment recieved and processed, just ‘dispatch’,,,,

but oh boy, once that thing gets here, I am OFF THE HOOK getting water time in. Donning all this neoprene gets frustrating at times; most of the places I kayak don’t have facilities available, so I have to don it here at home, and by the time I am on site, pretty much soaking in my own sweat. Then freeze my bum off on the way home. Being hot when I get in the water doesn’t help any either (though I do cool down quickly,,,) that initial shock can be jarring,,,, And I want that to be ‘induced’ over inadvertant,,, Cold shock causes a body to inhale sharply, and if you are underwater, you are drowning at that stage,,,, Get that shock outta the way before getting into the boat and potential capsize conditions.

Tomorrow is the start of our ‘new’ year. I just can’t get over how “ODD” this year feels,,, Everywhere I go, people pass along the usual “happynewyear” saying, but only one so far seemed to mean it. most are just being polite it seems.

The dread of this coming year is palpable.

Maybe tomorrow, when I am on the water, Universe will glitch, realign or adjust something in my hind brain that will make me stop feeling so ‘blah’ about things. I can hope anyway. Either way, I don’t plan on getting off water until I have put 12 or more miles under my keel. I wanna start this year right, no matter what way it ends up going over the next 12 months.

I’ll try to post some pics,,, not that the scenery is all that right now. Scraggly treelines without leaves, gray skies, usual wintery drab looks about things. Maybe it will snow: that usually makes thing a bit more photogenic (and looks cool as heck on my foredeck,,,,) It will be cold enough for it, but I don’t think its calling for any precipitation.
