Dam, I wuz expectin em to be worse than that! That gasket wasn’t too awful far from puttin the wrong fluid in the crankcase, either. Looks like yer timin wuz right on the $, too, or it likely would’ve – sooner, rather than later.
I’ve had to reuse a block with worse walls than that. No choice due to a severe lacka $$ on my part. Seems like that wuz a regular thing in those years. Got a *bit* o room nowadayz, glad I managed to hang in there! Now, if only the ole bod wasn’t semi trashed!! Well sheeiitt, if’n it wuz ezy, any-fuggin-one could do it!! Keep on keepin on🍻🥂

FWIW, Someone had been in there before me. Passenger side gasket was a Felpro, while the culprit side was factory. I hatez when people half ass shit like that,,, you’re there, DO IT! right? I may have to forego getting shit milled (no machine shops anywhere close and the one, 2 hours away, I did contact, I would be waiting two weeks to get my heads back) but I can make do with a flat surface and sandpaper.(done it before on fiats, never failed on me) ((side note, Cyl 3 was also the one with factory orignal plug back two years ago when I did a tune up. They couldn’t figure out how to get around the steering column and get the plug so left it in.))
BUT, there are on the bench, and the job is half done now. Time to rebuild and get her runnin’.

Had similar sit-y-ations meself. Never could figure why someone will do half assed sheeiitt like that – UNLESS they were SUPER tight on $$. Me, I’da found some fricken way to do better! Done the sandpaper trick on the heads several times, too. Wasn’t always poifect, but it worked. That wasn’t for lack of a shop – it was a severe lacka $$. Have fun🤪
