A small venting of frustration (resolved&updated)

Here’s the deal, Monster gates Two of ’em, right? both are going to be powered access point’s.

got all that? Ok, on with the show,,,

Problems are, I have no control over what we order,,, I have no control over sizes or components of the install. In this case, both are gates 60′ in length, heavy steel pipe make up, with 9ga wire for 2/3rds of the beast. One is 8′ tall, the other 11′ tall.

Where I start having issues is in communication. Son of Bossman wants nothing to do with them, doesn’t want to hear about it; “its dads problem,,,,” sort of attitude. Gotcha; I don’t want to deal with it either so I can sympathize.

The other side of my frustration coin is Bossman himself. He ordered these controllers/motors using ‘well it worked in the past,,,’ and his only accounting was supposedly* calculating wieghts. He ordered all residential openers,,, DC powered units with battery power on board, Batteries are rated 7ahSLA’s, a pair to each motor, so 14amps for one hour,,,, 14 amps into a 12vdc motor= 1hp, give or take,,, So, this motor could move one of these gates once an hour without killing its power source (note: I did not say “Will move one of these gates”,,, I have doubts there as well.) (AC currrent needed is only to recharge the batteries, not power the unit.) Again, INDUSTRIAL application. One of which is a jail,,,, High traffic point. The other is a distribution center and the gate will be fine; its only opened and closed once a day, left open through working hours, but still SHOULD be an industrial unit for the long term life. I don’t know that it will last a year with the loads its going to be exposed to. (* I wasn’t there when he did, don’t know what numbers he used or how, nor if he screwed up his math,,, I only know the numbers he quoted me on the larger one seem WAY off,,,,)

My concerns fall on deaf ears,,, he doesn’t want to hear it, for whatever reason (I think costs, units are bought and paid for now and no returns other than warranty, and our install will void the warranty as its underpowered for such a gate.)

Just the nature of the gate should have told him “INDUSTRIAL” unit needed,,,,, won’t hear it,,, I keep getting “make it work”, and fear that it matters NOT what I do, these things are gonna fry the first time I hit ‘send’ on the faceplate. Still won’t hear me. (and I think its back to that ‘cost’ thing. I suspect he underbid both projects and is trying to stay under budget. Gate openers are high dollar parts; even residential models,,,,)

And I am tempted to just walk away before any of that comes to be. Let him deal with it however he has to, since he won’t hear a damned thing I have to say about it, and I AM THE INSTALLER, he is just the provider of what I am installing. I’m the guy on the line with the busted knuckles and burned fingers trying to ‘just make it work’ when the laws of physics are against me.

Frustrated as hell right now and I am not seeing an adequate solution. I see several solutions, not optimal, and most it will fall back on me in some fashion, DESPITE the misgivings I have expressed, because neither of them wants to hear about it.

I said it under my breath today on my way home “some jobs should never be taken’, meaning the one I am on, but tonight, I am wondering if it was my subconcious saying ‘fucking quit NOW dood, before you blow your reputation to shit.’

and that leads to other issues, like the fact that we are headed into holiday season and (long term) jobs are going to be sketchy to find. Sure, I could find some temporary hold over until January, but in retail, not skilled labor, or ‘not as likely’ I should clarify,,,,

FUCK,,,, feeling more than a little stuck in a box here and I HATE being pinned like this. My frustration is real: its leading to me feeling sick to my stomach, no appetite, sleep loss, you name it.

Force the issue through, or walk away and pray? Or hope the economy collapses and all of this is moot? (fingers drumming on desk,,,,,)

UPDATE/RESOLUTION: Don’tgivfuk ,, Install it and let it blow up, and refuse to be the scapegoat no matter that I know it’s coming. But I can’t do squat until the electrician (must be licensed in TN) runs power from juice pole to box for us. Batteries need charging, especially in this cold or they die, and Bossman agrees with that, so I’m on hold till the electrician gets that end handled.
