not as expected
Today went swimmingly,,,
Other than a slight disruption between self and the other elder Emp, no issues what-so-ever. The disruption was his not wanting to be ‘crew leader’ and kept trying to shuffle it off on me, then turning around and taking charge of the crew to do EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE of what I had just given orders for.
I finally walked up to him and said “If you want me in charge, shut up and do as I say and let me do the job that you want me to have. If you have an idea that is ‘better’ tell me and let me make the call, otherwise, ITS YOURS and I am just Grunt labor. And I am done talking about it.”
Amazingly, he shut up and started doing what I had said. Instead of the usual roll it out and stretch the wire one section at a time, we rolled out and stood up all the wire while we were all fresh. I set up one guy(the other ‘leader’) tying it to the toprail to hold it upright until we went back to stretch it tight . Then we went back and started the easy part of stretching it. No one was worn out to the point of looking dead on their feet, and we had no load of wire to haul back with us. And it was still daylight when I left the shop. 550′ of fence of 600′: we were short one roll of 50′ and why the job is not completed as yet.(I was wrong in my numbers this morning, and yet, we did it FASTER this way than anyone can remember doing it. Gotta watch that; I have no desire to be a constant crew-leader AND welder/fabricator. One, OR the other; with my preference being ‘burning metal’.)
And we damn near finished that job today. Some small stuff that needs done, but it has to wait on my finishing the gates and its kinda hard to make like an electron and be in two places at the same time. Lead a crew, check. Weld up gates, Check, Both at same time? NOT SO CHECK.
Oh, and Bossman and Son were nowhere around, at all, all day: Amazingly absent from the scene. And that made things even better since I didn’t have to deal with 3 others inputs and suggestions to confuse the crew even more.
And now its wind it out time at home, catch up on things, make dinner for me and feed the furries, digest a bit then jump on the erg and get some ‘miles of paddling’ done: 5 more days of 20 minute sessions then I bump to 25 (may go thirty depending on how that 25 feels the first night.)
Really need to work on the Christmas story for all of ya. Sarah posted her second one today. ( correction!!! THIRD story, and I stand in corner properly chastised by Frau Hoyt, ROFL. Apologies Sarah,, )
things to do, honey doo, “THE LIST”, you name it, we all have something of that sort in our lives. Mine only seems to grow, no matter how many points I knock off of it,,, (and I hear I am not alone in that aspect,,,,,)

Third story.
