Tossing what to load up for the weekend,,,
I have been playing with Lizzy on the porch the last couple of nights: I found some super thick poolnoodle material and I cut a slice in them, mounted them to the keels bow and stern and have been using Lizzy like a wobble board. Have hit the point that I can hold her keel down while sitting in her and not bump her chines, just sit there balanced on those noodles. Sat for half an hour while talking to Sis last night and only bumped a chine once. Even hold it upright when Grizz or Zooms jump on to see what Daddy’s up to and to get a chin rub.
SOssss,,,, Do I unload BJ and load up Liz or stick to the plan of just running BJ all winter until such time as I am able to get others to go with.
decisions decisions,,,,
Thinking ‘Stick to the plan” is the way to go, even though I FEEL like I may have the Lizzy under control now. Of course, pool noodles are not water and what happens on water may be completely different. Really starting to consider how to install a small pool on my property. Nothing huge, just LONG so that these boats can float,,, (which will lead to me wanting wider and deeper so I can practice rolling, which leads to how to keep the water warm all winter so I can keep practicing all winter then that leads to making a building to cover it so I don’t have to fight the snows or leaves or acorns which are littering my yard right now,,,,) (more money i ain’t gotz,,, LOL)
And I have this krazy notion of going back to the water center in Bville and seeing about restarting the winter roll sessions. I hate to bother since the last time, I was IT for the last 4 sessions they ran. And I wasn’t even the instigator of that. It was done by another group, and they were the first to stop showing up. Great kick-off, but almost no follow-up,,, And I know the director there was a little miffed the last time with how it started great, but went into a tail-spin in just a couple weeks. Even he was asking me what happened to the people that started the program, to which I could only shrug,,,
part of my hesitation is that I can’t even get regular paddlers just for weekend floats.
Maybe its the economy,,, People sticking close to home ‘cuz of fuel costs. Or that people have to work twice as much to meet the same ends so less time for frivolity, like boating on weekends.
Hell, I’m pinched and have to stay close to home for fuel costs,,, So I can’t say much. (except when I am providing the boats, the transportation and all the gear, then the failure is all on them, not me.)
*sigh*.
How to be a gregarious adventurer when you are a near paranoid Introvert???? Maybe thats the lesson I need to learn before I can move on to the next realm,,,, (the two most important points in life, The day you were born, and the day you figure out WHY,)
Or should I just run with the ball and become like this woman. Say to hell with it and just GO: I have this idea of kayaking the Cumberland river along its ways to the Ohio/Mississippi and doing the “Great Loop” or at least as far as the Gulf of Mexico, maybe doing the coastal thing to the Keys of Florida. Not some record breaking event, but something that is off the cuff and maybe inspire some reality writing. (paddle to the Falls, portage the falls to below, then across the entirety of Cumberland lake, to the dam, portage that, and then its locks and what not to Nashville, back into KY at the Land between the lakes more dams and locks and then Ohio river and beyond)
more money I ain’t gotz,,,, LOL. And I has katz; don’t think they would appreciate my leaving them for a year or more to do something stoopid/krazee/suicidal. And they sure as shit wouldn’t WANT to join me, ( Waters??? Awhellno!! whutchootinkin’ dad?)
The only thing I could say for certain about doing something like that: I wouldn’t have any anxiety in a kayak anymore,,,, spend everyday in one for a year and if you are still fighting it; give it up, it ain’t you!!!. (and I have seen vids of Freya playing in a pool, standing in her kayak and other silly games, like doing a head stand in a kayak afloat. Krazyyy. Skills and confidence fueled by long exposure to the boats and water.)
Funny how, its been nice ALL WEEK and the day I have no work at the shop, its kinda pissy out. I’m bored, my mind is wandering, and I sit here writing silly ideas out looking for inspiration on fixing my sequel. Yeah, I’m still struggling with that, and seriously considering a complete revise of the original,,, Disconnect the first from reality ‘just enough’ that I am not tied into competing with the madness of the world at large as it currently is. Sorry, I don’t think a skyscraper full of writers could come up with the script our world is working with right now; Reality is most definitely stranger than fiction.
