And totally a non-issue with where I paddle. If I were to take her on big water (great lakes, ocean) with miles between self and shore; that’d be a problem.
And I have to retract one statement from yesterday. Blue jean DOES weathercock when not loaded. No load today and the wind kept pushing that ass end around. Not horrible but noticeable, and correction strokes kill speed. GPS track across the lake looks like a large curve, not a straight line, and the shape is determined by lee points in land: more open water equals tighter radiused curve. Remember I said heading and bearing are sometimes different. Days like today bring that to light. Your bow is pointing ‘there’ but your moving upwind of it. (The wind pushes the stern down wind so you are moving upwind, into the wind: weathercock)
But thats why I want something like Lizzy, or the Cetus MV (something with a drop skeg, where Lizzys is fixed). Eventually I will be playing in salt water and BJ is a close to shore play boat, not a serious open water boat. Her design is sometimes refered to as an ‘overnighter’, or ‘all-arounder’ not expedition
And the dude that I was supposed to meet here missed meet up and didn’t text till an hour later that his Girl decided the water was too cold. (Yes, it is, I dress accordingly) so I solo’ed (is that a word?) (And was already on water when the text arrived. I already knew there’d be excuses,,,)
3 miles, easy does it, just enjoy the air (I do like the smells of fall,,,) the water and a moment in the sun before we start into the grey days of deep winter. (Where I have to dress up even more to paddle, and getting anyone to join is tilting at windmills.)
