At least it ain’t snowin’,,,
(I say that and watch what happens overnight, LOL)
Its sitting a balmy 80 degrees in the house (woodstoves RAWK!!!) and I have sleepy kittehs sprawled everywheres. You know they are comfy when they sprawl and show bellies. Its when they start curling up into tight little balls,,, Kitteh thermometers,,,,,
I have two kayaks sitting on the porch just singing water love songs at me. And I don’t have a clue where or what to do with either of them right now. I want to get out, but the desire is being overridden by my ‘hibernation’ call. Its cold out there.
its warm in my house,,,
and the days are getting shorter,,,
*sigh*
I hatez winters.
I have all of my cold water gear laid out and ready, and could be loaded up pretty quickly. Even camp gear if I decided to take Blue Jean and spend a day and night out. Paddle out to an island on Laurel lake and camp overnight sounds like fun,,,, Plenty of firewood after the windstorms we had a couple of weeks back,,,,
Been doing a lot of surfing the netz for fun and games nearer my Sis in SC. And researching writing groups there,
Maybe its a ‘wanna getaway’ thing of winter, but, recall please, there was a point where Da and I went to SC to check out a possible move there. Never happened obviously, but the calling is still in me. My issue being that I do not want to be inland (or not much that is) and I am a poor broke welder with no contacts on the coast. Thats not to say I couldn’t make them, I just don’t have them. And there is a little voice inside telling me to invest in a TIG welding unit and go there as a freelance welder at the docks. Fix those pesky fishing rigs that always break,,,, Probably not the only guy with that thought, but hey, if it would work, (but where to reside, and what to do with Katz,,,).
Gotta admit, my anchors here are well sank. GrumpyKat especially. If I move, she won’t: this is HER house, and I am permitted to live here (in her eyes that is. Gotta have the faithful hooman slave to provide the foodies thing, and keep the fire goin’,,,)
Getting older, getting more settled in my ways, not as much wanderlust in me like in days of old. Not happy where I am but the tearing out by the roots thing gets old. And thats why Da isn’t moving. Even he wants out of here, but the idea of moving unsettles him and so he SITS. And I stay because I swore I would be there for him till his last. I could make a move within a couple hours and still be keeping that promise, but the fact that I own my place, not rent or lease it, gives me a lot of incentive to NOT make such a move, not when you consider what property values have been doing of late,,,
Sellers market right now, BIG TIME.
IF, I were to move, I would do things quite a bit differently this round. First off, A two or three bay garage is in order. Not for wheeled ‘hicles, but for work space, and I would put my living quarters OVER it I should have done that this time, build the shop first then living space (I can sleep in the shop while building the house, I’m not proud,,,). My biggest gripe here is my ‘workshop’ is open air (a plus when you are dealing with dust and stinky stuff, but only in the summer months.). And when you have a 17′ kayak in production, that shop gets crowded FAST. Need more space.
I once knew a guy that owned a decent sized storage facility. Rented out space to others for his income, but lived in a triple bay spot within the facility and worked from there for his hobbies. He did frame up restorations of old cars and had an apartment built over the space he used, to live in.
I could handle that set up,,, May drive a GF bonkers, but so what, I am not exactly pushing for an SO at this point: I like my freedom of bachelorhood,,,
It’s cold out there,,, Colder than October should be IMO. Welcome to low Sunspot activity cycle sumpin-or-nudder. And KY has been officially labeled a drought zone as of a report I read this week. All of the whitewater creeks here’bouts are flipping goat paths, or so low that most of the WW peeps I know are going out of state to play.
even the lakes are down,,, Saw one lake where the boat ramp is out of the water now, the water is so low. And the small floating dock there is now sitting on the beach. They all drop to ‘winter levels’ here in anticipation of spring rains, but this year they all seem way lower than usual. (The power generating lakes especially.)
Time to build the fire back up some, Mama(Grumpy) just curled up and tucked her nose under her tail; temps in the house are falling.
Its cold out there,,,,
SC here (I think I mentioned that?). Skills would translate to employment I think pretty easily in our AO and many others. I have a friend (armorer/gunsmith/importer-exporter kinda guy) that did exactly as you describe. Gun shop lower floor, living quarters above. He and others around here like the set-up. Of course, insurance folks and county bureaucrats in some areas try to make this a little more challenging, but there are work arounds.
Achieving momentum leading to inertia with regard to change does indeed get orders of magnitude more difficult as we age and the longer we sit tight. Just how it is. Doesn’t make it impossible, just a little more daunting sometimes when coupled with promises and responsibilities. Having watched parents and others of that age group doggedly refuse to leave their situation any other way than feet first..well, I get it. Adds another layer to deal with.
Dudes like you are pretty much universally welcomed in South Cackalaki. We’ll leave the light on for ya.
