When ya have to say goodbye
First thing this AM at the J.O.B. , Mittens the kat had a run in with a vehicle and didn’t do so well. But she was still breathing when I arrived at work. Instead of doing the right thing, bosses asked me to do the expediant thing. Son handed me an M&P 9. Why me? Because I’ll do the deed with one round where he gets all tore up, can’t see straight, and mucks up the situation (almost shot himself in the foot once.)
At least she was receiving kind words as I did what needed doing.
I never got to pet her; she was always the feral type. But she knew her name as we gave it to her, and would come when called (especially if food was involved) but always kept 5 yards distance.
When its time to say goodbye, its easiest if quick.
But its never “easy”.
There are two legged peeps I’d rather see dead, than that little kat.
More later as my mood lightens,,,

My condolences. Euthanasia is never easy regardless of method. Our oldest dog just turned 8 and is healthy so we shouldn’t be facing it again too soon. I am a 59 year old FF/EMT and Army veteran that has seen my share of bad stuff, but NOTHING rips my heart out and makes me blubber like a baby more than taking that final trip to the vet. Just before Christmas 2018, we had to put down my 12 year old Rhodesian Ridgeback Ernie because the tumor in his throat had gotten so large breathing and eating was too difficult. I cried off and on for 2 months and am tearing up just typing this. He was such a good boy.
We have all our dogs professionally cremated and ashes returned, so they are with us still on the bookshelf in the home office.

When I had to make the call on Grizzy1 last year,,,,
Yeah, blubbered like a baby.
And it hit me and mamakat hard for well over a year. The new boys are a blessing for the pair of us.

I’m sorry for your loss. It sucks to lose a furkid, even when it wasn’t “yours”. My condolences.
