What’s more disturbing??? How whatever I type out, here, in texts to friends, or in my writing programs, somehow finds its ways into my ‘feeds’ and suggested ads to me, I mentioned some obscure tool to another welder friend and blammo!!!! the next day it was there on my Zon suggested products,,,
There is growing concern in small circles about how the internet (in general) and advertising AI (it ain’t, its a specialized series of programs/algrorithms) are actually causing more psychologic harm, and how the whole design of non-physical interaction is acting like a petri dish to grow narcissism. It started by attracting the narcissist, and because the ‘likes/dislikes’ thing drives it, encourages that growth in others.
I believe it was here that I said ‘tiktok is creating a generation of short attentionspan drones for TPTwB’. Imagine a social media platform that ONLY uses 10 second blurbs and what you end up with is a group of people that demand you boil your point down to that 10 seconds or they will find someone that can.
Sorry, life doesn’t work like that,,, Its either over with in the blink of an eye or takes hours days weeks months years to reach fruition. Future planning especially, like preparing for buying a home or retirement plans,,, things must be built over time, and not in ten second blurbs of interest,,,
Even I have felt that ‘get on with it’ in longer vids on other platforms,,, and I don’t use the tickitytock platform (other than something someone wants me to see thats funny,,, but on their device,,, I won’t load that app,,,) Some of that is just the nature of the beast in the internet. We get antsy when we have to dig through virtual reams of paper to find ‘the point’. If I had been so impatient as a teen, my research papers would never have reached completion,,,, (lord, the kids today have NO IDEA what tortures we endured for researching ANYTHING,,,, card catalogs, microfiche machines to scroll through YEARS of newspaper clippings,,,, and the need to document the search so peers could review your efforts and make sure you weren’t gaslighting/ contextually editing for your benefit.)
Data bases are our research platforms now, and the process is aided or impeded by how decent the programmer is. I have never built a database, but my EX did and I learned quite a bit about why I am not the sort built for that area of I.T. I am way to intuitive, not process oriented; the get-r-dun sort, not make sure all the bells and whistles function first. Any database I built would have serious kludge factor involved: sorta like my brain is organized,,,, “now where did we put that? Oh yeah,,, right next to ‘Barbara’ and “Chemistry 101; first quarter” “ No rhyme nor reason but it works for me (and you are likely much the same if you aren’t an IT professional. Or some other profession that demand insane levels of organization.)
At least now, we get to wade through small mountains of Shit to glean the nuggets of truth, where before, we had to accept what we found as truth first and formost.
Read that article,,, that we have hit the lowest of the lowest spots in TRUST of our institutions, leadership, governance, hell, even our medico’s in many instances, we are going to be feeling a little lost in the weeds. At least most of us that are GenX are used to that feeling of independence, even if that independence was built on certain trusts being immalleable.
Now we just have to strive for a future of OUR CHOOSING,,, and hope the current Powers don’t finally get that nuclear holocaust they seemingly desire.

Weather turned yesterday, as most of the US should know,,, Huge mess of storms swept up from Texas all the way through to PA/NY,,, Seriously high winds some rain, electricity flying high with resulting sky grumbles,, The winds had me concerned around dusk: I was watching my wind-genny and feeling anxious. More the tower than the genny. That tower was dancing in her guylines. If she were to fall, that genny will get destroyed, but thats about it. Nothing else in the fall zone. Still, thats an investment not easily replaced these days. (both genny and blade companies I bought from, are no longer about.)
But this AM, she was (and is) still standing tall, and the genny is still doing its whirly-gig thing,,,,
But the weather downturn into Dogwood spring has brought me low as well. Low energy levels, low spirits, and VERY low motivation. To DO purt’much anything takes SHEER WILLPOWER,,, I just wanna go take a nap,,,, A LOOOONNNNGGGGGG nap,,,,,

Where I do have a problem with some of the linked articles is with THIS ONE. I do not feel the US should shoulder World Wide ‘reparations’ for acts committed by Bad Actors within our government. That, in all truth, puts each and every one of us to task to pay for what only a handful are guilty of. And the names of the guilty are listed in that article. At least the leaders of that farce are listed. There were others, and I will lay some of the blame directly at Trump’s feet as well. His recent notion that the Vaxxnottavaxx is a boon for the world shows serious Cognitive Dissonance on his part: understandably since operation warp speed was his baby,,, BUT, it does not entitle him to immunity from giving that greenlight. A correlation with Pilate “washing his hands ” could be made here. Not ‘ directly involved’ but certainly not clean either.
And maybe that ‘blanket’ application of guilt NEEDS to be made,,,, Maybe that ‘bill’ of reparations handed to the American people would push us into seeking Justice where it belongs,,,, ‘We’ll pay the bill, but your ass is going to jail for LOOOnnnggggg time, Mr (insert guilty party name here,,,)” OR “We’re paying the bill Mr (guilty party), and your neck gets stretched at dawn, on live TV, broadcast world-wide. As warning to the other Doctors Mengele in hiding.”
Like anything Immoral, unethical, etc etc,,, YOU CAN’T LEGISLATE MORALLITY/ETHICS. Adding laws to already existing laws only creates more chances of loopholes being created. And Criminals don’t pay attention to the laws anyway,,,, The U.S. had already made GoF research verboten, and what happened? The guilty took their games elsewhere and kept going. And if that article linked is accurate (I don’t doubt it) than they also managed to keep tax payer provided funding going for it ‘under the table’. My personal opinion of Gain of Function research: Those that are curious about making disease MORE lethal show some serious mental instabilities, and should be treated as DANGEROUS with HOSTILE INTENTS. again, just my opinion,,,,
The only way to promise the future that such can not happen again, is to make inroads into ethics teaching and hope it sticks. There will always be the power hungry and the Mengele types with us, Narcissm is a reality and MUST be dealt with individually as the monster comes to the surface. That may or may not ever show its face in public, or be caught, but the monsters still linger in the dark, and in the shadows of the day.
