Backstage at the Workshop

I must admit, there is a certain amount of ‘discomfort’ for me, when it comes to this podcast thingie,,, I have never been one for the limelight: thats why I chose the support field of Audio Production over ‘bein’ on stage’.

Yesterdays podcast, started rough with self-inflicted tek-nickle difficulties, followed by four-footed insistence, to ‘Just get your damned feet wet Dood!’ And there were still some technical issues, one un-resolved (mastering of the final product was rough)

BUT,,,

That particular podcast(not including the opening issues that needed dealt with,,, thats a different aspect), from first track record to last, including transcription and edit of, was 4 hours, total. THAT is a huge improvement in just a week. And now that I know about that permissions thing, my initial problem won’t be a future problem. I won’t need to go back and ‘fix’ all the stuff I messed up, like I did on this ‘adventurous’ session.

Areas where I FEEL I need work: speaking technique,,,, I still, occasionally, slur. This is not something thats easy to fix because prothesi are never 100% replacements. Dentures are prosthesis,,, and it DOES effect my speech, considering they are “inline” to my speech output, they’re gonna have some effect. Getting around that is a training thing, and will improve with time as I get further along this path.

Second thing I need to ‘improve’ is DISTRIBUTION. Currently, my WP site is IT! No corresponding outlets like Apple Podcasts or any of the others. Part of that being, I’m cheap,,, I don’t want to invest in this that deeply until I see some results back. This is an area I need to work on with the books as well (shush y’all,,, I know Wings needs a re-write of the last chapter still,,,, Workin’ on it,,,,)

And I am seeing some results back, just not enough for me to justify even MORE money out of pocket just yet. I’ve already gone well above my projected budget so far. Time to hold the cards a little tighter while I knock down the debts I incurred.

Yes, I am seeing some good results. My podcast posts are showing triple the number of views that my written posts do. IS that because there are that many more listeners? or what? Hard to say since WP deleted my “downloads” markers for some reason, and I can’t find how to get them back. If I could see the number of downloads on a daily basis, and which ones, I would have a better metric to make a decision from. Fact is, there were some crazy changes taking place behind the scenes here this week and I have been adapting on the fly to keep the front side working the way it should. One day I found out that my sidebar had been ‘removed’ and I hadn’t been playing with the code on that at all: just ‘not there’ one day. Got it back easily enough, but WTF? and how did that come about?

Part and parcel of going ‘new domain’ and things being shifted from one server to another I guess. Fact is, a lot of the ‘mysterious strangness’ that I am experianceing on this backstage, I am attributing to the domain move. You may or may not notice any changes, but there have been many,,,

I’m polishing my chops in recording again, and dusting off my I.T. creds as well. Funny: being your own deskside support team: do not reccomend,,,

In keeping with the AI theme of the last podcast, I do use AI a bit more than I talked about in that podcast. The transcript was done using an LLM.(MacWhisper) Getting help on issues pre-recording? LLM (Gemini). I didn’t do any imagery this time around, but I have done so in the past: also LLM’s.(various applications depending on what I am trying to do.)

Over at Sarah’s house she has been playing with ‘CLankers’ , as she affectionately calls the AI,,, generating songs and video around one of her stories. (I do not know which ‘engine’ she is using,,,)

This thing is NOT going away,,, We are in that phase where those that play are going to ‘Get it’, and those that don’t, ‘get left behind’. Proceed accordingly. Use your best judgement of YOUR abilities, but be willing to push the boundaries.(IE, YOUR boundaries. The AI has limits too, but they exceed ours as individuals.)(Scrap that,,, some(most) of the AI have limitations built in; like Sidd can’t (Won’t) make any images using a specific person as known by all. He’ll make images of myths and legends, but not historical or famous persons.)

Here in the dusty backstage area of the shop, things are getting better. The clutter is getting organized, the workflow is improving, and the only real SNAFU I run aground with have minds of their own: Four Feets, and Mama especially. I can’t/won’t make the changes there that would improve my output (well, Maybe, shut that cat door with the kids OUTSIDE,,,) Time will change that matter, and thats not something I want to accelerate.

(maybe my next investment is a Shed that I can convert to an office/recording studio,,,, very tempting,,,,)

Post-scriptitum thingy: Yes, those following along in comments, I have a sub stack. I actually signed up for it, well, almost 2 year ago and never used it. Decided that I will use IT as the hosting site for the podcasts and mirror them to here for regular publication reasons. A lot of that has to do with Storage facilities. I have a rather limited storage limit in WordPress. and I haven’t been able to find any limitations over at Sub-stack,,,

plus, its more traffic/territory/coverage. Now to see which one grows faster,,, LOL. Seriously, there was more ‘financial BS’ involved getting that sub stack set up, and I’m still ‘under investigation’ for reasons I don’t fully understand: They seem to think, at least by what they have sent me, that I am located somewhere in the ‘Stans,,,, Um, Appalachistan mehbie,, Ain’t the same animal though.

These financial hoops and fire rings you need to jump through these days,,,, WTF? I ain’t asking for donations or trying to be a tax exempt service or religion,,, Just send me enough for a cuppa e’ry now and again and I’ll keep typing/yelling at microphones.
