Welcome to my brain. It’s messy. It’s interesting. And it’s all connected if you stick around long enough. "Believe Nothing: no matter who said, even if I have said it, except it agree with your own reason and common sense. Siddhartha Guatamo, the Buddha.

A little Smithery last night

This right here ladies-n-gents, is a Jennings J-22.   Also known as one of the most dangerous pistollas in the world.

Didn’t do a full break down, but I did pull three of the pins to clean up the Trigger mechanism, and tighten up the Sear where the pin had drifted off-center.

In the following picture,  you can see where I staked the pin that holds the trigger lever in place, as well as a small spring.   THAT, was the problem.   That pin kept falling out and making things hairy as hell.   Couldn’t fire the gun, couldn’t de-cock it, and because the firing pin was full depressed held by the sear, couldn’t break the gun down.    (apologies for not taking picutres of that tear down.   Truly small parts and didn’t want to monkey with a camera and pins barely larger than upholstery needles.)

WELL,,,, I did and I never want to monkey with a loaded pistol like that again.    I cleared the magazine from the gun,  took the right side grip off, and TRIPPED THE SEAR with a screwdriver.  ALL while keeping the kids and myself on the safer side of the barrel.   Once cleared, the whole thing came apart pretty easily, and I made a new pin for that trigger.    Hardened steel shaft from a  drill bit that was just the right size.  Cleaned up the ends with a dremel so they wouldn’t catch on anything, reassembled it and STAKED THE HELL out of that channel to keep it in place: BOTH SIDES.

Here you can see the sear, and the rear arm of the trigger mechanism.   That one kept popping off the pin on the sear because the pin had drifted left.   I pulled the sear and reset the pin.  Alls good now.

And the story of how I came by this little nightmare?    This is Da’s pistol.   Or was.   I was given it a week back because he is scared of it now.    And it was his own doing.   He liked to run CCI Stingers in the poor beasty and it just couldn’t handle them.   The last time he shot it, the recoil was so hard, it self-disassembled and tossed the slide down range.   I run Winchester Match in the thing, and it will rapid fire cleanly with no hint of wanting to come apart.

Why is it the most dangerous , or one of such, in the world?

You should never carry this thing with a round chambered.    PERIOD, END DISCUSSION.    They are known to go off while a person is walking fast, or drops it accidently.   Carry with the mag in, but chamber empty and alls well.  And yes, the ATF has this pistol on that list.   (occasionally they get something right.)

And thats the kinda krazee shit I do when I am whooped after a long day in the rain.   The only part that had me NOT relaxed was tripping that sear,,,    BUT, there was no other way to clear the gun (that I could figure.)

On a different note about the same gun: I swear this pistol has one use and one use only.   It’s accuracy is total crap past 10′, it has less capacity than a revolver of the same caliber, and its not something you want to carry chambered.  In the hand, only two fingers fit on the grip and barely at that.

IMO, this pistol is only for upclose and wet: like putting down a dog when that time comes.  (or some other wording, but I leave that to your imagination.)

But I’ma gonna keep!!!    There may come a day (like with Cuz’s mutts) where such is needed.

Ya done good! Those things are, indeed, scary, if’n a body doesn’t use it right. Loaded mag, empty chamber, fer sure.

Mikee gotz a similar headache – my Mom’s Raven .25 cal. Moms been gone since 2004, so it’s high time I doez a dive with it to see if’n I can make it more better-er. It’s functional, but, like yer Jennings, it leaves a lot to be desired.

Lookin round the casa, trying to find stuff to occupy me 2 brain cells and hands, and this post triggered them brain cells! Gonna add that to my short list, I am.

Botha the Gnostic books are a-gonna be here today, so gonna have some new reading to keep me busy, too. Busy is VERY good fer Mikee – right now, ‘specially at this particular point in time!

    Y’all take care,

I didn’t bother with that list. Figured the only pocket gun I own which might be on it. Would be my NAA 22 magnum revolver. I do carry it fully loaded, but a unique feature they have is a recess on the cylinder between rounds to carry safely in case of being dropped .

On the other hand I have a Sig P238, which is a mini 1911 clone. It supposedly is designed to be carried locked and loaded. Usually I never do , however if I’m going into a sketchy area I do .

Floriduh has just now made constitutional carry legal . So if I really wanna be serious about protection I can open carry my Sig 220 now. A very safe gun to carry with a round chambered with its s/d action. Even tho it has no safety. Only in a holster with a proper trigger guard tho.

    • Im with ya on ‘polymer striker fired’ . The Jennings is a striker fired (though not polymer) and I feel thats why its dangerous. That sear can walk with the right vibrations or jarring, and its the only thing holding the firing pin in place, when cocked. Much prefer hammer fired like Brownings 1911 design.
