Welcome to my brain. It’s messy. It’s interesting. And it’s all connected if you stick around long enough. "Believe Nothing: no matter who said, even if I have said it, except it agree with your own reason and common sense. Siddhartha Guatamo, the Buddha.

The year is rollin’ out, DUH!

Made it home a bit on the late side tonight: Paid Day so had the bank run and what not,,, stopped in at Da’s,,, he’s grumpy because of the heat and not wanting to be out in it.  Shit makes him sleepy, then he can’t sleep when he wants to,,,, Yah, y’all know the deal.   I told him, ‘get the fourwheeler out, the breeze while riding will keep you cool and you can go see things other than hours of Utoobies,,,,”   Will he? who knows,,,

The days are getting shorter, the year is on the roll out, my reading spells are getting longer, and I can sense a downturn in working hours coming soon.  I could be wrong: currently we are slightly over-extended and my duties are getting spread all over the damned place.   I am neither a god nor an electron: I can’t be in two places at the same time.   Luckily, I have been able to train a guy or two in things that I have been the sole resource on.   Nothing spectacular: running a core drill for concrete.   One of current contracts has us drilling holes for the posts,,,, about 300 holes and counting.   This is NOT a fast process,,,  Today I supervised the two guys doing ‘my job’ after bossman and Son had spent the ducks on a second core drill and bit.    They did good, and my corrections were growing thinner as the day wore on.   EVEN SO, the two running guns all day only accomplished 18 holes.   YES, its a slow process due to the nature of the materials and NOT wanting to break gear.  I may have one more day playing baby-sitter with them, maybe, maybe not.  Will see.

With the turn of the world on its axis, shortened days that only get shorter (for awhile) I started thinking about what I should carry for Kayaking on the weekends.    I am calling it my FourS-T pack : “Shit sucks so Sit Tight” pack.    Nothing outrageous, just a shelter and ammenities, some food for a day or two, and my usual EDC survival stuff.  and of course, some warmer wear for when things go all sideways as they did last year and I almost went down with hypothermia.   Paying attention to weather is essential and sudden drops in temps with chilling rains are bad news.   I wouldn’t have needed the SSSST, then,  but what if I am on one of my longer play days and things go the same direction?   Yeah: shelter in place, get dry and warm and wait it out.

When the weather gets to the point that the highs are around 40-lo 50’s,,, then the dry suit will come into play, but not before.  A dry top is plenty in most instances (until the water gets below 50 and stays there.  Rule 1: Dress for immersion)  and even overkill most times of the year here.  A good wetsuit, either full or in peices, works well for me.   The drytop is added insurance,

and the Drysuit is more for when playing on moving waters with Brudda B n friends, which may or may not be a thing,, that depends a lot on weather (Rain chasing,,,) and other factors far out of my control(like travel times to X and warning times).   OR, it would be for getting out on some coastal area during the winter seasons,,,,   Thats a future goal, not an immediate aspiration.

About that winter kayaking thing,,,, I get pestered all the time about how crazy I am to get out when its chill,,,    And yet, those are some of my better memories of kayaking.  The most peaceful for certain.   less boats to add noise, just enough to keep the water moving around some.  Not so hot you want to stop at every hint of shade.     The only thing I dislike is the bare branches of sleeping trees.   They give me that melancholy feeling, which is fine, but can be overpowering some days.   The trees go barren, and I start the search for signs of life to hint at on-coming spring.

cycles on cycles on cycles.   Thats LIFE,,, a time to reap, a time to sow,,,,

I need more time on water, time before the winds of November start to blow and chill my bones and spirit.

and the weekend is almost upon me,,,,

Man, I hate core drilling! The dust is aggravating, but the noise drives me up a wall, even with hearing protection! The vibration seems to seep into every cell…
But I’m with you on the cold weather water excursions! One of the best surfing days I ever had was in late December, water temps in the mid 40’s, ambient temps not much higher, but the break that’s usually dang near shoulder-to-shoulder with other surfin’ peeps was just me and two other dudes. That’s about as deserted as any Cali surf spot ever gets! Of course, time in the water is severely limited, even with a full 4/3 suit, booties and gloves after about 40 minutes one starts to feel like a popsicle!

    • Fortunately (or not,,,) we’re drilling wet. Wet feet suck after a few hours
