Buff is home
Two in the afternoon, Boredom kickin hard,,, Laptop in full forve and Vellum and Scrivner burning the processor up. (both are high data users, for the love of me, not a clue why, they are essentially wordprocessing apps,,,)
and Cuz from across Hollar came up on his sidebyside. Getting Unk to take him out somewhere. I nailed his foot down for a minute to assess hill status, and came to the impulse of ‘try it’
Took Da’s fourwheeler back to him, didn’t put it up (it was likely I was going to be using it to get home) Stopped in Da’s place and let him know what was going on and to chat a minute. (he hates the cold more than I do, there is snow in the bed of his truck that hasn’t been exposed to road winds.) He told me he would put the Foreman away IF I made it. That was a relief since this is going to be a one-shot deal till these snows break up more (tomorrow, fingers crossed)
Backed down the a flatter spot (this IS SEKY, flat? whuzzat?) Dropped the transfer case into low 4 and the trans into second,,, gave her some juice and she took to that hill like there was nothing but grit under her shoes. At least till I approached the peak, then she started to slip a little. Apply a small amount of brake pedal and her slippy tire locked in, both grabbed and on we went.
Snows been exposed to just enough sunlight that it was breaking up, not that hardpacked slippery stuff that I fought with last night. There was one other area on that hill I had trouble with and it’s the section that never sees direct sunlight,,, It was still hardpacked slick-city but there was just enough unpacked on the edges. That section is now impassible until things warm up enough for it to melt some. (or I take a load of stove ashes down there and scatter them around for grit, which also stains the snow and lets what little light hits it, do some good.
While I am still snowbound, having all my kids home now make me feel some relief. Don’t like Buff being out and about on her own,,, lots of stuff in her that can walk if someone took a mind to it, and there are such in the area. At least up here, they have only so many routes of escape and I have ranges marked on all of them. Imagine you are a theif and you are beating feet away and see a sign that says; ‘250yds’ on the side of the path, and know that the person you just ripped off is KNOWN for distance shooting (not that I consdier 250 all that far,,, thats a warm up shot.) LIke any shooting, that isn’t ballistic (IE Arty) ya gotta be able to see your target (and even Arty uses spotter/forward observers) Where Buff was located, I couldn’t see,,,
She’s home now,,, happier about things and can relax,,, maybe that was what I needed to open the vents for the muse,,,,
