There is a LOT here to pick apart, and BOM does a good job of laying down evidence of corruption.   Not that we or our Grans will ever see justice (not at current course and speed anyways, Always willing to be surprised though)

Seriously though, all of that post is part of the Hegelian dialect: Create a problem, offer solution, and now you have two problems and more power.   I know that is NOT the actual definition, but IMO, should be.   Certainly is the case in how things are being done in those ‘shining cities on hilltops’.   In the case of the homeless, It can be attributed to many factors depending on which homeless person you talk to.   Could be the fact that we dismantled our mental institutions back in the nineties.   it could be a factor of shipping out most all our productive capabilities to China and people ‘gave up’ trying to work.  It could be an extension of the war on drugs, and our borders being so open to ‘cheap’ drugs.  It could be an extension of the fact that our FEDGOV has essentially dissolved our borders and refuse to do the ONE JOB that is clearly written out for them.

And ain’t nuthin new,,,,,   Historiically, homeless have always accompanied times of great change, and we are most definitely in the midst of that.   Tech, since the early aughts has rewritten the entire face of social interactions, from individual to corporate.   Even corporations are having a time, trying to lure their emps back into the offices after shipping them off to ‘work at home’ during the lockdowns.   Yah, like that’ll happen.  Hell, if I could do my job wearing a button down shirt and jammy bottoms during a zoom call,,,   Think I wouldn’t? It’s not like I need supervision to do my job now, and I never have needed supervision once through the training process: I bust my ass at my jobs, and always have and that reputation precedes me.

But I digress,,,  Back in Victorian days, and even prior when the Industrial revolution was kicking off, homeless were everywhere.   Think about the Dickens novels, the orphans of London, or the victims of Jack the Ripper.   All homeless, most addicted to something, and usually unable to be reached by interventions when tried.   I believe Sarah did quite a bit of extensive research on this very subject for one of her books and talked about it.   My only contact with it was in history courses and one hella good teacher that didn’t ‘lecture’ but had us roleplay figures from history: much more vibrant way of getting things across and in such a way that you FELT the times.

Whats my point?   Well, the homeless problem is never going to go away, for one.   But there needs to be some way of mitigating it.   Right now, its out of control in many places, and I am going to touch on that, AND, I am going to push some triggers at the same time.    

So, we know the homeless problem is getting out of hand; IS out of hand in several places.  I wanna toss out a premise for you to contemplate for a minute before I start applying hammer to Feel good politics.    You TAX the things you wish to stop, and SUBSIDIZE what you want more of. .  Familiar territory to most of my readers I am certain.  So we have that out there, lets pick up that BFH and start hittin’ things.

MOST all of the areas that are suffering under onerous taxation AND rampant homelessness are BLUE HIVES.   We have one here nearby, a fully Demoncrap ran city, and the homeless are OBVIOUS when you drive through.  Certianly not Venice Beach California obvious, or Dopers shitting in the streets of SanfanSicko obvious, but THERE,,, the calling cards are blazing ‘I’m a homeless wretch’.   And these hives do the same thing every damned time: Throw more money at the problem.   Well that certainly isn’t working,,,,

In the post Boring Old Man wrote, (linked above) he talks about how he would offer food or somesuch when walking to work  and how it was always refused.  They wanted money.  Same thing applies around here,  and I am sure it’s much the same anywhere else this is an issue.   Money, they wants the money,   fuck the food, fuck the hand UP, they wants the money.   Some may be ‘honest’ about it and tell you, I need the money because my kids sick.   Or something,,,   Only once have I seen TRUE honesty: a guy with a sign that read ‘won’t lie to you, I want money to get drunk” or something to that effect.   

Well all of that leads me to believe that the ‘Powers’ in these places “Want more of it” and I can think of several reasons why.   First off, you could game the voting roles with these tent cities.   Toss in the mail in balloting that is so common in such areas, you could put together a small team, send them into these ‘cities’ and offer a ten-ner or twenty for vote, and likely get away with it scot-free.  They don’t care, they got the key to their next fix and most all of them are the ‘Shut the hell up” types (Snitches get stitches means a whole lot more when you know you can be offed and no one around would give a shit, but might roll your body to make sure you weren’t hiding cash or rock from them.).  

And maybe that isn’t it.  Maybe its more like what BOM talks about in that bill for ‘tiny houses’.  Only a small percentage of the money dog eared in that bill would make ti to the street level, the majority of it is in administration fees and property rentals.   And only for 175-200 people in a state that is buried under homeless numbers in the hundreds of thousands.

Now here is where I start bashing on “Feel Good Politics” the hardest.    Soffitrat told me a joke once about a guy that loved birdfeeders.   He would hang bird feeders all over his porch to attract the morning song birds.   But after a time, those feeders started attracting the european grackles.   Well invasive species or not, they are also somehow a protected species.  and they would run off ALL of his lovely song birds.  Then they started making nests in the rafters of his porch, shitting all over his porch, smelling the place up with the crap, sometimes even dead fledgling birds that were abandoned by the parents for whatever reasons.        After a month of this, he had had enough.   Took down ALL of the bird feeders and hosed off his porch, used a broom handle to clear the rafters out, and within 3 days, the grackles stopped coming back.

HE STOPPED SUBSIDIZING THEM.

Same thing applies to all these illegal immigrants.  Stop subsidizing thier arrival/stay, Stop putting them up in the hotels to keep the economy alive (it doesn’t, but it does line some scammer/politicians pockets.) Stop with the free shit.   Let me say that again.

STOP WITH THE FREE SHIT!!!!

You really wanna help these people? Seriously help them?   Spend that money on Rehabs.  Rehabs that already exist and are showing results but could use more money/people to do even better.   Open up Adult schools that teach things like personal finance or basic trade skills.  Recruit local construction business to take on apprentices.   etc etc etc.    These things could be done for pennies on the dollar of what is being spent and show actual results.   And it would weed out those that are actually down on their luck from those that are at rock bottom of the addiction cycles.   It would weed out the derelicts that will never be worth a shit and should be left to fend for themselves as no matter what their story is, they will NEVER lift a finger for themselves.

And no, this isn’t counter to the lessons I have been absorbing the last two days: quite the opposite.   Recall yesterday that i stated ‘YOU have to do the work, Not God, Not Jesus, not your parents, spouse, or children: YOU’.  Don’t give hand outs.  Give them a hand UP, and if they won’t take it, let Darwin take his course.   Cruel?   Yup, but LIFE is cruel, no such word as “Fair” in the common understanding of that word.   The real meaning of “Fair” means “equally screwed” and right now the only ones being screwed by this homeless thing are the people that actually work for a damned living, paying taxes and trying to make ends meet on their own efforts.   CUT THE SUBSIDIES.   If the politicians won’t do it, then start withholding your withholdings into an escrow account with the caveat that when the bullshit stops, they can have it.   Maybe if half of the actual taxpayers, (not the workfare peeps that are funded by tax revenues) did that, then these asshats would sit-up and take notice that ‘We the People” were getting pissed off and ready to use those liberty teeth.   Lord knows yelling about this shit online does absolutely nothing. Writing your senator does nothing.   The only thing these people listen to is Ka-CHInG! and when that money stops flowing, they get really nervous.
