Soup! With CHUNKY bits!!!
Hell, thats exactly what it felt like paddling this new to me lake,,,

First pic shows water weeds just below surface, and this lake is chock FULL of them. The only way to paddle ‘in the clear’ is to get 100 yards off shore, and that puts ya at the mercy of wind, wind chop, and Oh Yeah, fast movers,,, coulda sworn someone told me that this was a trolling lake, but there are quite a few bassboats skimming here and there. It may be that there is zero enforcement, dunno, but I sure didn’t see any signs about gas engines being verboten.
A guy can really get a boat moving when the water is denser than his usual digs. And this water is DENSE. Hard to see, but there are sections out away from shore where the chop dissappears because those weeds are so close to the surface.
Honestly, that shit makes me nervous!! If I capsized, there is no recovery, only wet exit. You’d be so wrapped up in that crap, its be like getting caught in a net.
And the whole place has a swampy stench to it. Not really offensive, like the tidal stench of Parris Island(smells of raw septic,,,) but not the clean water smells I get at Laurel or Cumberland either.
Fact is, I am here 3 hours early; I wanted to get some seat time in: and did, but that Soup,,,, I think Lyssa is gonna get a high pressure wash on the way home,,, Stop at some carwash and spend a couple dinero on hosing her off HARD. Probably need to wash my skirt too, definitely my water shoes; the algea on the ramp was snot slick (and what’s making that stink) some serious funkadelic smells goin’ on here: no desire to take em home with me.
Well, I’m here to do some business, not pleasure, and maybe get some reading in as I wait for the client,,,at least I don’t have to worry about that soup in this case: its outfitting a new kayak for them, and I don’t have to get Lyssa back out for that. THEY can take their boat out in it, but I only need to adjust their seat, backband, and install some extra hardware. I can do that in knee deep water and call it good (and get these water shoes GOOD AND STINKY in the process: I envision a pair of shoes riding in the bed of the truck on the way home,,,,) If I were teaching rolling, or rescues, this lake won’t be the classroom.
