Hatez to move
I’m gettin’ older (Gettin? Try ‘GOT) and getting settled in my ways. I like my little house, with all its foibles and ‘character’. It ain’t perfect, but its MINE, and that counts for quite a bit.
Losing a phone to “oops, shoulda checked that” just adds insult to injury. What happened, you ask? The gland over the power button ( an obviously high wear area) on the waterproof case had worn through. When I was upside down or sideways in the water, well, pressure differences began to equalize and there was almost as much water inside the case as there was phone in short order. And that water worked its way to battery terminals and shorted all sorts of things out. The heat was that battery dumping its load, and Lipo batteries do not recover well when ran bone dry. (as in, THEY DON’T RECOVER) I could take the phone somewhere and get a new battery installed, but seriously??? I think I would pay double the cost of a new phone and still be out a phone for the interim.
But I hate trying to decorate a new phone with lost apps. Some of them I may use once a month, some everyday, but they all get used and now, I am trying to chase down passwords and log-ins and,,,, sigh.
Listen to Dio whine,,, have some cheeze my friend.
Yeah, I know, just grumbling because the new digs don’t fit me yet, and I like being comfortable.
Nuff of the whines,,,, Krazy day on the water today. watched some newbs tackle wind and wave and swamp out a few times. Poor girl just could not get her hips to swivel and if there was a frog ripple, her kayak tossed like it were on high seas. When the house boat rolled past (big waves, really big waves) that girl,,,, I tell ya, I sorta felt sorry for her, but I think the ‘friends’ that put her in that position need some smacking around. Big no-no IMO was them not making her put her PFD on properly. She was wearing it like a casually worn vest: no straps attached, just on her shoulders and not closed. No instruction at all, just “here, sit, we’ll launch you from the beach, and don’t forget to paddle’. If she ever goes out again, I would be surprised. And she was in a ‘lifetime tamarack’ which is a fairly wide-bodied hull, stable like a rock, unless you are tense like a 8X8 oak beam. And this girl was obviously so.
And I have some growing to do in kayaking still as well. When those big waves hit me, I was out a ways. Saw ’em coming and started tensing up myself. BJ is not a boat for tense, she is so laid back about waves and stuff. She rolled through them smoother than ice. My growth is losing that tension,,, It showed my confidence is still shaky, and there is only one way to get that: seat time. Seat time in less than ideal conditions, pushing limits, pushing myself. And goofing off when able,,, the whole FAFO learning curve.
Admittedly, I would prefer to be in group for that last, to help mitigate risks, but group around here is limited. I have seen on FB one other long boater that paddles on the lake I do, but he only paddles during the week, avoiding the lake and the high traffic of fast movers on weekends: IE, the only time I can get to that particular lake (45 miles one way from home,,, has to be a day trip) The other place I would like to go is three hours away, and again, limited number of similar boaters. Either I need to change my ‘style’ or continue to muddle through ‘self-educating’, or MOVE.
Hates moves.
And that being said, I do know I have one more move in me in the future. A large part of why I am not making further investment in establishing myself in this area is desire to get away from this area. T’ain’t gonna happen until the Da passes on (or decides he is sick of this area too and wants to relocate),,, Not a day I look forward to, you can be certain.
muddle through, deal as I can, and bore the hell out of my audience with kayak-y stories,,,
Maybe one day, I can get Lyssa out on the open water of Lake Cumberland, where the waves like to stand up and glare at ya, and have that action camera with me. Let y’all see just what it is that is drawing me. You may not ‘get it’ but you will see that ‘flat water’ isn’t always so flat. (Note: I don’t like taking the camera as it seems like it encourages ‘teh stoopid’ in people, self included. ,,,,, then again, maybe I need to so that I am pushing my limits more,, hmmmm)
But seriously, I want to push the bounderies because I would like to do some solo TRIPS where the only way back is on your efforts, no matter what the conditions are. IF I only paddle ideal conditions, I won’t be ready for ‘whatever comes’. It’s kinda like prepping,,, but prepping ME, versus my supplies. (those, I have,,, and part of the drive is to USE THEM, not let them sit and degrade with time,,,)
Ok, nuff domestic day early mornin’ ramblin’. Gots to get off me duff and do things. Lyssa is back on Buff, and I may take her out today. (or scrape some more of that manky gel coat off as I see it in better light) (side note there, yes, its something on Lyssa, not the gel. I used this same gelcoat on Lizzy with no issues, its not old, and all other things being the same: something on Lyssa’s hull is mucking things up. I’m thinking they sprayed epoxy hull paint, not gel.)
