Murphy pays a visit
Alternate title: My truck is cursed
Headed out this AM after doing the domestics thing, usual road I travel no less than twice a day, reached for my sunglasses, that had fallen to the floor and came up looking at a tree with the truck nearly on her side on a berm. Less than a second, and that front tire grabbed the shoulder and pulled me into that drop-off. Kudzu is tough stuff and stopped that truck dead before she hit the tree: probably kept her from flipping fully on her side as well.
Testament to my kayak securing straps: Lyssa doesn’t have more than some rub marks of branches, but the front beam for the racks is tweaked. I’ve been over her with a fine tooth comb looking for anything that may become a leak, or crack or whatever, but so far, all I can see is marks that will buff out with a diaper and some wax. She never budged and those straps didn’t get stretched.
And other than the windshield that took the brunt of an attack from a tree-branch, a couple of very minor dings in the front quarter panel, and rub marks like Lyssa is sporting, Buffalo is fine too. That windshield looks like it took a fist to the drivers column area: didn’t penetrate but is cracked and crazed along that column.
My only comment after a local pulled me back onto the road: “I knew getting up this morning was a mistake,,,”
phblllltttttt!!!!!!!!
Perceptions are everything, and our perceptions are completely individual from the world at large. What I see as a calamity, or a boon, you may see as a nothing burger. This one was a wake up call to me. ‘I shoulda seen it coming’ crossed my mind (and no ‘duh Dio, if you hadn’t taken your eyes off the road, you woulda seen it coming,,,’. I got that already,,,). Little things, distracted living so to speak. Misplaced a new set of sunglasses yesterday while kayaking, probably left in the head at the boat ramp (last place I recall having them.) forgetting a particular shopping item on my list while in the place I usually get it and needing to make a second trip,,, Just little niggling things, nothing important by itself, but stuff that adds up to say “Gotz sumpin on me mind, and it aint’ what I am dealing with right now,,,”
It’s now going on four pm and I have all the little things wrapped up, cracked plastics repaired on Buffalo, second/third go-overs done on Lyssa, grass still needs cut but the mower is acting up again,,,and I wanna get on the water and just meditate for a few. Point the bow in a direction and paddlepaddlepaddlepaddle until I am as far as I can be from shore in any direction, and then, just sit, let the wind push me around and the waves rock my boat, but let the mind wander the realms and see if I can spot the distraction its chewing on.

“but let the mind wander the realms” – sounds like a dam good plan!
Glad to see y’all ain’t too worse for the wear. Nor the boats or The Buff. Could easily have been MUCH worse – as yer aware. Anyway, carry on, Sir.
On a side note, and totally off topic – might have a line on a pooch – gotta see what the lady has to say. Right now, only 2 weeks old – Boston Terrier pups. We shall see.
Y’all take care,
Mike in FLA.

Boston terriers are COOL. Been thinking when Voodoo passes over that rainbow bridge, a Boston terrier is next. Maybe Universe has been whisperin’ to both of us

My thoughts, too. She just got back to me. New pups are 2 weeks old. Gonna have pix up in the morning. Dam well could be the ‘verse talkin to us – still have the notion we must be brothers from different mamas.🙃🥂 Maybe different dimensions or sumpin! Too many co-inky-dinks otherwise – and I ain’t exactly one that believes in ’em!

Glad nothing serial happened in the mishap. Long ago I started wearing my glasses on a tether. Never have to search for them and cause distraction. Though I can’t remember how many times I’ve crushed them between my chest and an object when lifting sumpin up. Cured that by getting titanium frames. They do catch hell from welding spatter however

Sunglasses ride on my visor in the truck. Knocked em loose, and they fell to the floor, and thats how I ended up in a ditch (more a hillside than a ditch,,,)
BUT
I have that donor Blazer and its windshield is intact, and,,,, just need to make he time to put all the pieces in place. Maybe a week to do engine trans windshield etc etc. And there is still wood to be cut, hauled, split, and stacked. A new furnace to install so I can keep house( and kids) warm while away at work etc. Figured going single my “honey dew” list would be smaller,,, ROFLMAO. yeah, right!!!
