Muhnday? try ‘woof-day’
cus my bods going “woof!!” right now.
And I still came home to play with kayaks,,, I am THE kaya-addict,,,,
What I did? My hindbrain was working on that whole ‘leak check’ thing since I finished up the welding last night. I did the whole ‘bright light’ check while I was working on it. (streamlight halogen flashlight shinging on the inside where I was working.) That worked VERY well. But, I know light is not water, and water will find a way, ALWAYS. Air will find some leaks, so, pressurize the compartments and do the bubble test.
Skeg box: Perfect, zero bubbles.
Slider box: not so much, one small pinhole leak. easy fix, just fire up the soldering iron again and rework that entire section, melting the plastic all the way to the inside and ‘swirl it around some’, smooth and recheck (once cooled back down)
all good to go, and I am still going to do a recheck once I have her in actual wet water conditions. Paddle a bit and check that back compartment for leaks since the skegbox is below the water line. I am not as worried about the slider box since it rides above the water line and the only time it would leak is in rough water or rolling and what little a pinhole can let in, I am ok with. Heck, the skirt takes on more than a pinhole would in those conditions; Like was said previously,, Water finds a way, ALWAYS. Waterproof is a concept, not a fact.
IF, the skegbox leaks, the easiest fix is Lexall sealer, and can pressurize the compartment to drive it into whatver holes may be there. OR, I can mix up some epoxy and do much the same, but the lexall seems to work best for sealing things up on Poly boats.
I know,,, BORRRRIIIIINNNNNGGGGGG!!!!
Solly, not solly,, I loves my boats,,,, They are my sanity these days, and doing things to them, like the last two days, really fills a niche in my psyche that would itch otherwise.
Chat atcha’all more laters,,, most likely something Un-kayak=y: I know I have been lax on the world stage, (GOOD!) and while I like that, I do need to poke my head out from under my rock on occasion.
